[Sequence of vascular closing mechanisms beginning post partum].

Ductus arteriosus, ductus venosus and umbilical vessels were studied in a group of 120 children deceased in perinatal period and 30 persons deceased at the age of 1 month till 90 years. Time sequence of evident morphological closing of vessels was analyzed. A contraction of media and proliferation of intima finished at the end of the 1st month were found in all of them except in ductus arteriosus where it finished at the end of the 3rd month. Dystrophic changes of proliferating structures were found in following months. Closing of ductus arteriosus started in an antenatal phase by pillow-like proliferation of intima. A primary thrombosis closing the vessels was extremely rare. There was not any difference between immature and hypotrophic or mature and eutrophic neonates.

[Morphologic analysis of the thymo-lymphatic status in neonates and in early childhood].

Lesions of B- and T-systems as well as of suprarenal cortex were studied in a group of 31 children (at the age of 2 days till 3.5 years) suffering from thymolymphatic state and correlated with their basic disease. 25 cases were of a secondary type, 6 cases belonged to an idiopathic (primary) type. Secondary thymolymphatic state mostly occurred with inflammatory diseases of the respiratory system and was characterized by a B-system exhaustion, T-system activation and suprarenal atrophy. Idiopathic thymolymphatic state found in sudden and unexpected deaths was combined with variegated B-reactin and T-system activation. Insufficiency of immune reactions (morphological as well as functional) and suprarenal cortical atrophy could contribute to the cause of death.

Caliber and elastin content of the pulmonary trunk.

Internal diameter, thickness of media, and surface density of elastin in media of both pulmonary trunk and aorta were determined in a random group of 100 adults. Because of contrasting results of histologic vs chemical studies of the amount of elastin in the pulmonary trunk, we have used a television image analyzer for objective determination of surface density of elastin in histologic slides, applying the same method to the aorta for comparison. Both caliber and medial thickness of the pulmonary trunk increase somewhat with age. The surface density of elastin in the pulmonary trunk is not influenced by age and averages approximately 26%, with considerable individual variation. In patients with pulmonary hypertension, this percentage is consistently higher. We conclude that the decrease in extensibility of the aging pulmonary trunk is caused by changes in physical properties of the constituents of its wall, rather than by a decreasing elastin content.

[Morphology of the ductus arteriosus botalli in various periods of human life (author's transl)].

The orthology of the ductus arteriosus was studied in a group of 52 cases (from the 5-months old fetus up to a 90 years old man). The prenatal preparation for closure of the ductus as well as postnatal changes and their morphological pictures are described. The primary intimal proliferation appears prenatally. The muscular contraction and secondary intimal proliferation participate in the postnatal closure.

Phaeohyphomycosis due to Alternaria spp. and Phaeosclera dematioides: a histopathological study.

A case of phaeohyphomycosis caused by strains of both Alternaria spp. and Phaeosclera dematioides is presented. The biopsy material was studied using histological, immunohistochemical and transmission electron microscopy techniques. The agent's dematiaceous mycelia are composed of thick-walled hyphae, branched and unbranched, with terminal vesicular formations. All the described structures occur alone or in chains within multinuclear giant foreign body-type cells or invading an abscess. Also present are budding forms. Immunostaining of histiocytic inflammatory cells in either. diffuse or granulomatous infiltrates revealed cytoplasmic positivity for lysozyme and Ki-MIP antibody. The lymphocytic infiltrates of the upper corium show predominantly small T lymphocytes (CD3 and CD45RO positive) and absence of CD20-positive B cells. Plasma cells occurring within the infiltrates of the deeper parts show polyclonal expression of both Ig light chains.
