An increased need for vitamins and microelements supplementation is observed in both pregnant and breast-feeding women. Proper vitamin supply seems to be essential for normal deficiency of a few vitamins may lead to congenital defects. It needs to be remember however, that too large doses of vitamins may act as toxic agents, disturb homeostasis and proper metabolism of other vitamins.
It's a review of literature on the clinical effects of Livial. Livial (generic name-tibolone) makes a therapy of choice for postmenopausal women. It's a synthetic steroid with estrogenic, progestagenic and androgenic properties due to its tissue specific effects. Livial is effective in reducing wasomotors symptoms and has positive effects on mood and libido. It also prevents bone loss and reduces risk of fractures. Livial is safe for cardiovascular system. The incidence of side effects is very low, about 3 in every one hundred. Because of its progestagenic activity in endometrium it results in endometrial atrophy but in vagina the studies showed oestrogen--like effects, i.e. improvement in vaginal dryness. Livial may be used as an "add-back" therapy in conjunction with GnRH agonists treatment. The rates of discontinuation is lower than HTR preparations, about 25%. Livial may have benefits over conventional HRT in older women (over 65 years old), in women with history of endometrial cancer, breast cancer and endometriosis.
An ovarian endodermal sinus tumor was found in a 29-years old patient with a 32-week intrauterine gestation. She received caesarean section, conservative surgery and three courses of combination chemotherapy. She died 6 months after the diagnosis.
The study describes a rarely-occurred ovarian leiomyoma. This type of tumour placed in the left ovary in coexistence with carcinoma of the left kidney was found in the 70 years old female patient. In epidemiology, contrary to the type of kidney cancer with occurs most frequently, ovarian leiomyoma makes only 1% of indolent solid ovarian carcinoma.
Wide access to the assisted reproductive technics as a tool in the treatment of infertility arisen many questions regarding the outcome of the pregnancy, its possible complications and the neonatal outcome in women after IVF treatment. We completed the literature search in order to present this subject. It seems that the increased rate of spontaneous abortions and preterm deliveries in this group is caused by such factors as: maternal age, chromosomal, hormonal and uterine abnormalities and immunological factors. The incidence of preterm deliveries in the multiple gestation after IVF group is similar to the one observed in the spontaneous pregnancy group.
