Between 1975 and 1980, 42 pancreatic injuries have been managed, they represented 9.5 per cent of abdominal injuries. Nine patients received penetrating trauma and thirty three patients sustained blunt trauma, the majority of them was a road accident. Associated and concomitant injuries of abdominal organs were present in 81 per cent of cases with the pancreatic trauma. More than 66 per cent have multiple brain, thoraco, abdominal, and bones injuries. Thirty two patients have been treated before the sixth hour. The emergency surgical treatment has been conservative in twenty six patients and a primary resection has been performed in twelve patients, (with eleven partial pancreatectomy and one pancreatoduodenectomy). But four patients died on the operating table because they have extensive injuries to several abdominal organs. Postoperative complications were present in 66 per cent of cases. They obliged the drainage of abscesses, three distal pancreatectomy and one pancreatoduodenectomy. The global mortality is 31 per cent, the secondary mortality is 21.4 per cent. The authors conclude thanks to the study of this series and of literature that the frequency of pancreatic trauma increased, and that its gravity is directly related to the number of other organs damages, missed or delayed diagnostic and to an inappropriate emergency treatment, which let necrosis and infection making their deadly evolution.

Marine ecotoxicology has been developed by the acquisition of new methods of measurements. Among them, "in vitro" biological marine chains allow the evaluation of the risks for the environment and the public health. The study of the heavy metals in the Mediterranean atmosphere, seawater and fauna allows the evaluation of their pollution and the detection of its origin. The comparison of the "in situ" measurements with those of the "in vitro" trophic models shows the interest of the methodology.

Hematomas developed in the small bowel of 6 patients receiving long-term anticoagulant therapy with antivitamins K. As the report by Chapuis and Mercier during the 81st French Congress of Surgery has fully covered this subject, the authors present their cases to illustrate their clinical features, while emphasizing certain particular characteristics: 1 - Associated hemorrhagic lesions were frequently observed. 2 - Early diagnostic follow-through barium meal examinations of the small intestine could be conducted without any particular problem. 3 - Laparotomy was necessary in two patients because of shock or local signs on examination. 4 - Small bowel lesions can vary in severity, sometimes in the same patient (case no 1). Some hematomas heal spontaneously after discontinuation of anticoagulant treatment, while others can, theoretically, develop necrotic reactions. Small bowel resection was necessary in two patients. 5 - A frequent occurrence was the association of lesions in the right colic and ileal regions. 6 - Finally, anticoagulant treatment can often be reduced, discontinued, or replaced by other therapy.

The authors report one case of septicemia following the infection of a remaining endocardial electrode lead. From this observation and the literature's data, they are thinking that it is essential to remove the entire pacemaker system (electrode lead and generator) to cure this complication. They remind the different technics used to remove the endocardial leads.

The authors report a case of isolated segmental caecocolonic lipomatosis complicated by infarts. The diagnosis was made from the urgent symptoms and treatment was by simple right colectomy and immediate reconstitution of continuity.
One case of traumatic rupture of the isthmic region of the aorta is reported. Acute ischemia of the inferior limbs, anuria and paraplegia have led to the diagnosis. During the first hours after the trauma bowel ischemia appeared. The repair of the aorta was achieved within the seven hours after the accident but the bowel ischemia stayed irreversible. A such complication has not been reported in the literature as long as we know and we are think that it is possible to range this complication among some of the ischemic enterocolitis.
