A perennial hyposensitization treatment over 2 years was performed in 18 pollen-allergic patients (14 children, 4 adults) with a standardized and purified graspollen extract. The selection for therapy was provided by allergen titration in skin prick test, conjunctival test and by the estimation of specific IgE to timothy. The reported decrease of seasonal symptoms was accompanied by reduced sensitivity in skin test and conjunctival provocation test (p less than 0.001, p less than 0.05). No consistent change in specific IgE was observed at the end of the study. Specific IgG antibodies significantly rised and persisted (p less than 0.001). A successful hyposensitization treatment with graspollen could be monitored by in-vivo and in-vitro parameters.
In this study that concerns 106 cases, authors insist on the frequency of the infectious and mechanical complications. They make a review of the etiologies and of the various materials used by themselves and study successively the mechanical, infectious and mixed complications, sector by sector. They drive, at each level, conclusions concerning the results with their subsequent lessons. Having recalled, in short, the principles of supervision of any child bearer of a "valve", they conclude by developing their present idea of the "ideal derivation" by on the base of the material submitted to experimentation. They insist on the value of the ventricular-peritoneal derivations in the new-born.

BACKGROUND: The skin of preterm infants is defective as a barrier and does not function like that of mature until about 2 weeks of age. METHODS: Percutaneous drug absorption was studied by observing the blanching response to aqueous solutions of 10% Neosynephrin applied to a small area of skin on the internal surface of the thigh. The subjects, 10 preterm infants born at gestational ages 29 to 32 weeks (mean: 31 weeks 2 days), were tested when they were aged from day 0 to 7. The controls were 8 normal newborns aged 2 days. All preterm infants were tested a second time at the age 7 to 17 days (mean: 10 days). The blanching response was measured after 5 minutes, and graded on a scale of 0 to 4. RESULTS: The first test was positive grade 2 to 4 in all the preterm babies, while it was negative in the normal newborns. The second test was negative in 7 of the 10 preterm infants; in other 3, the grade was at least 50% lower. Infants nursed under radiant heaters were not different from the other infants. CONCLUSION: Skin permeability is increased in immature infants, but falls steadily until about the age of 10 days. The results of the Neosynephrin test could be useful in predicting the response to topically administered drug.
In current practice, arteriograpy is already acknowledged, at the present time, as a method of primary importance which cannot be dispensed withfor diagnosis, prognosis and treatment. By opposition, considering pathology of the peripheric nerves, arteriography is often overlooked before chirurgical exploration though it affords the same advantages as in the remaining fields of pathology. Technically our preference goes to selective angiography by direct puncture of humeral or femoral artery. Arteriography will permit:-Visualisation of the location of the tumor close to the major vessels;-Evidence of the exact site of the efferent and afferent pedicles;-Discovery of other localisation. Mostly arteriography helps preoperatively to histological diagnosis. It must be recalled that benign neurinomas often assume a misleading aspect on the tumorography with stagnation of the contrast medium which might suggest malignancy. These benign tumors have three peculiar features: 1. Arteries are observed to stretch out around the lesion but never to narrow. 2. There is no explosive vascularisation ; hypervascularisation appears progressively, is located on the periphery of the lesion, and occupies but a part of the whole area. 3. Veins are not invaded but pushed apart and duly appear in normal timing. This peculiar aspect is quite the opposite of what can be observed in malignant tumors, which are, by far, less frequent.
