The neurotropic effects of pyroglutamyl-seryl-phenylalanine amide, the thyrotropin-releasing hormone analog, have been studied in experiments on male rats. Electrodes were implanted in the hippocamp and the optic cortex for registration of electroencephalograms. The analog administered intraperitoneally decreased the time of onset of slow sleep increasing the duration of this phase. The effects of the analog increased with an increase in a dose of the agent.
Introduction in tests with positive (alimentary) reinforcement, of elements of uncertainty and of "collision" of motivations, and carrying out of a series of experiments on dogs under such conditions during 2-4 weeks, led to the development of heavy and stable neurotic states. They were characterized by disturbances of emotional-motivational sphere, suppression of conditioned activity, somatovegetative dysfunctions. Preparations of atypical antidepressants (emovit and new benzamine derivate) reduced neurotic manifestations. The rate of reduction depended on the spectrum of neuro-psychotropic activity and properties of pathological states in dogs.
Chronic emotional pain stress in rats causes disturbances of the cardiovascular system function (increase in arterial pressure and in heart rate), typical of neuroses-like state, and changes of the vegetative nervous system reactivity tested with functional load by two-hour hypokinesis. Increase in spleen weight is observed as well as a tendency to adrenals weight increase, a decrease of Na, K-ATPase activity and activation of lipid peroxidation in cortical and hippocampal homogenates. Administration of F-801 antioxidant according to therapeutic scheme after the end of stress action, restores normal function of the cardiovascular system, normal reactivity of the vegetative nervous system, decreases adrenals weight and increases the weight of thymus and also normalizes ATPase activity and the level of lipid peroxidation. A backward correlation dependence of the Na, K-ATPase activity on the level of malondialdehyde in the brain tissue has been established.

Intermittent hypokinetic stress in rats, lasting from 1 to 6 weeks was attended by a complex of shifts of behavioural, conditioned, bio-electrical and mediator-humoral parameters. They considered as an evidence of the changes occuring in the tonic level of emotional state. Different phases of emotional state follow one another with the progress of hypokinesia. Acute emotional stress is observed, as well as the development of a compensatory systemic reaction and initial symptoms of the exhaustion of adaptational systems.

As a result of chronic stress, anxiety appeared in the rats behaviour, motor activity increased, heart rate quickened, blood pressure raised, conditioned instrumental alimentary reflexes missed, the duration of deep phases of sleep lowered, time of falling asleep became longer, the number of awakening increased. The change in quantitative characteristics of sleep was accompanied by its worsening, especially of rapid sleep. Administration of substance P (SP) eledoisin hexopeptide (EH) (250 mcg/kg), 100-200 mcg/kg of delta sleep peptide and 10 mcg/kg of ethylcrotyl barbiturate improved the rats behaviour and sleep parameters. Calipnon accelerated falling asleep. Delta sleep peptide increased sleep duration. SP and EH restored not only the quantitative characteristics of deep phases of sleep but greatly improved their quality: lowered the blood pressure disrupted tachycardia, normalized the conditioned activity.
A comparison of the biological activity of the thyreotropin-releasing hormone and its two analogs was carried out as to their ability to stimulate the secretion of thyreothropin from the pituitary body in rats, as well as of their effect on behavioural and electrographic sleep pattern. Among the studied drugs only the thyreotropin-releasing hormone exhibited a clearly pronounced biological activity. Its both analogs were ineffective. The thyreotropin-releasing hormone had a stimulating effect on CNS, slowing down the coming of sleep and shortening its separate phases. Under the influence of the analog A-1 this action was more pronounced. On the contrary, under the influence of the analog A-2 the tendency was toward speeding up the coming of sleep and toward lengthening of its separate episodes. The obtained data suggest a possible discrepancy between biological and neurotropic activity of hypothalamis peptides and the modelling effect of thyreotropin-releasing hormone and some of its analogs on CNS.

Pyracetam in doses of 20 to 200 mg/kg exerted no substantial influence on instrumental alimentary conditioned reflexes and vegetative reactions of healthy dogs, but was efficient in the period of learning. Administration of 20 to 80 mg/kg doses of the drug during neurotic disturbances of behaviour with concomitant vegetative changes of pathological nature, was attended with a positive effect lasting one to two days.
The work was carried out in 98 white male rats weighting 200-250 g. Typological properties of behaviour were estimated by locomotor activity in the open field. Neurosis was induced by electro-pain irritation (15 min daily during 3 weeks), accompanied by the white noise (4 h daily). The rats were influenced by air ions generated by Chizhevsky air ionizer ("Elion-132") for 2 h daily during the period of neurotization. It was shown that the degree of some pathological changes in neurosis depended on typological properties of rats. Air ions were established to prevent completely development of physiological changes typical for the model of experimental neuroses, i.e., increase of arterial pressure, Hildebrandt index and gastric ulcer formation. Air ions significantly decreased the number of gastric mucous membrane erosions. Air ions normalized activity of respiratory enzymes (succinate dehydrogenase and NADH-dehydrogenase) in rat brain cells and activated their exploratory behaviour.

Non-strain albino rats with the active type of behaviour (high motor activity and often visiting the center in the "open field" test) were found to be characterized by the longer time of survival at lifting to 11,000 m than the animals with the passive type of behaviour (low motor activity and lesser number of center visits). The latter were observed to increase their motor activity in the "open field" in 14 days after the single hypoxic influence.
A correlation was made between microcirculation and energy metabolism in the brain of 50 neurotized rats. Neurotic disorders were defined by characteristics of conditioning, arterial pressure, breathing rate and heart rate. In vivo biomicroscopy revealed modification of the state of blood vessels at rest and inverted reaction of brain pial vessels of neurotized rats to bilateral occlusion of common carotid arteries. Ratio of activities of respiratory cycle enzymes (succinate and NADH-dehydrogenases) was indicative of hypoxic state of the animals under study.
