Cytological findings in nodular fasciitis.

Nodular fasciitis, proliferative fasciitis, and proliferative myositis are tumorous proliferative soft tissue changes which on histological examination are quite often erroneously diagnosed as malignant neoplasms. Reported are cytological and histological findings recorded from nodular fasciitis in a man aged 34 years. The cytomorphology of nodular fasciitis is sufficiently characteristic, so that the lesion can be differentiated with certainty from malignant processes, since the cells have no features of malignancy, and the admixture of granulocytes and histiocytes in smears suggests a proliferative inflammatory process.

Cobalt-activated acylase and aminoacylase I in human malignant tumors.

The activities and isoenzyme pattern of cobalt-activated acylase and of aminoacylase I were estimated in carcinomas of bronchi, lung, thorax, stomach, colon and uterus. In all cancer tissues the activity of cobalt-activated acylase was markedly increased as compared with the normal tissue. Alterations of the isoenzyme pattern of cobalt-activated acylase were found in the carcinoma of stomach and of uterus, with the increased expression of the form-1 of the enzyme. No regularity in the aminoacylase I changes in tumor tissues has been observed.

Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) during superacute haemolysis in a patient with ovarian dermatoid cyst treated with rifampicin.

A 53-year-old female patient with ovarian dermatoid cyst and lung tuberculosis had been treated with rifampicin. During repeated rifampicin treatment she developed an acute haemolytic syndrome with haemorrhagic diathesis. Laboratory findings showed that it was caused by disseminated intravascular coagulation. Death ensued despite intensive administration of heparin and Trasylol. It is assumed that the repeated rifampicin application had provoked massive haemolysis by an allergic mechanism leading to thrombofibrinolytic haemorrhagic diathesis.

[Aspergillosis of the lymphatic nodes].

The authors emphasize fungal lesions to the lymphatic nodes confirmed by the presence of Aspergillus flavus in blood and throat smear cultures (on Sabouraud's medium) and presence of A. flavus in cytological examination of biopsy from the lymphatic node, increased number of eosinophils in peripheral blood, and infiltration of eosinophils in bone marrow and lymphatic nodes. Aspergillosis coexisted with the infection with Candida albicans and S. aureus. The treatment of recurrent tonsillitis with antibiotics and also lowered granulocyte myeloperoxidase activity with increased production of O2 peroxide ion might predispose to such fungal infection.

[Idiopathic form of lethal midline granuloma. Case report].

A case of the idiopathic form of facial midline granuloma is described in a man aged 35 years. Good result was obtained after radiotherapy, cobalt radiotherapy and chemotherapy. After 4 years no relapse or generalization of changes were noted.
