[The efficacy of a new Russian preparation metiazol in experimental aspiculariasis in mice].

The efficacy of metiasole, a new Russian analog of albendasole, reproduced at the E. I. Martsinovskiĭ Institute of Medical Parasitology and Tropical Medicine, was studied in mice with Aspiculuris tetraptera invasion. Metiasole efficacy and acute toxicity were comparable to those of embovin and superior to those of medamin. Relationship between the drug efficacy and its doses and number of injections was analyzed.

[A method for determining tegalid in biological material].

Conditions were selected for the extraction of tegalid, a new anthelmintic agent. A method for measurement of tegalide in biologic material, making use of high-pressure liquid chromatography, has been developed and experimentally tried. The method was found highly selective, sensitive and accurate and is recommended for experimental and clinical pharmacokinetic studies.

[The effect of the dispersity of tegalid on its bioavailability].

The impact of the new helminthicide Tegalide, a dibromobenzamide derivative, on its pharmacology was investigated. The agent given as a fine-dispersed form was found to be more intensively absorbed by the body and to be in animals' blood for a longer period of time (MRT fine-dispersed and MVR coarse-dispersed were 88.5 and 50.4 hours, respectively). As the fine-dispersed fraction of Tegalide increased, its bioavailability showed an equivalent increase.

[The attraction of the female urban mosquito Culex pipiens (Diptera, Culicidae) for oviposition by different attractants].

For urban female mosquitoes to lay eggs, the following potential attractants were dark containers, larval feed, ammonia solutions, larval culture medium and hay infusion were tested. The latter was found to be the best attractant since it was the most attractive and cheaper. The combination of the attractants did not enhance their efficiency. It is recommended that egg traps should be used to detect and measure the number of the mosquitos. The possibility of suppressing the quantity of the urban mosquitos by using the method is limited.

[The technology for manufacturing antiparasitic preparations. 6. The development of a technology for producing the anthelmintic Azinox (praziquantel) and the evaluation of its toxic and anthelmintic properties].

The paper outlines a procedure for manufacturing the anthelminthic Azinox (biltricide) using the new interfacial transfer catalyst benzyl-di-propyl (beta-hydroxyethyl)ammonium chloride. Azinox has been shown to be identical to biltricide (praziquantel) in its properties. Azinox tests on models of Opisthorchis felineus in golden hamsters and of Hymenolepis nana in albino outbred mice have indicated that the agent is not inferior to biltricide in its antitrematodal and anticestodal activities. Azinox displayed a high activity at the preimaginal stages of O. felineus and H. nana and at the larval stage of H.nana.

[The search for new antiparasitic agents. 17. The synthesis and study of the anti-echinococcal activity of the new preparation G-1697].

The paper describes the synthesis of the new agent G-1697 which is 4-[(benzo-2,1,3-thiadiazolyl-4)amino]-5, 6,7,8-tetrahydrobenzothieno [2,3-d] pyrimidine and the results of testing its acute toxicity and antiparasitic activity on a model of Echinococcus multilocularis invasion at the larval stage in cotton rats. The maximum nonlethal dose of G-1697 was 4.0 g/kg for outbred mice of both sexes whose weight was 14-16 g. Adult cotton rats (males) received the agent with their feed in increasing daily doses for 3 weeks continuously on days 8 to 28 after infection. The daily dose of its active ingredient varied from 0.03 to 0.35 g/kg and averaged 0.12 g/kg (the mean total dose per session was 2.47 g/kg). The baseline weight of parasitic larvocysts (PL) per animal averaged 0.28 g at the baseline. In the treated and control rats sacrificed 34 days following infection, the mean mass of PL per animal was 0.95 and 7.51 g, respectively. In the cotton rats treated with G-1697, the suppressed growth index calculated by three parameters (moderate, maximum, and minimum mass of PL in the animals of the comparable groups after treatment with regard to the similar baseline variables) was 90.8, 91.0 and 92.7, respectively, versus the controls. Among all PL found in each animal, its death was approximately 70-90% in the treated rats.

[Approaches to the combined therapy of helminthiases with leukinferon and etiotropic preparations].

The results of therapy with anthelmintics in combination with leukinferon show either higher efficiency of anthelmintics (medamin) or their same efficiency (albendazole). The outcomes of combined treatment of infected animals with anthelmintics and leukinferon are different and associated with the time of leukinferon administration as to the tissue stages of parasitic development, with the host's sensitivity and susceptibility to helminth.

[The effect of leukinferon on the invasive process in experimental helminthiases].

Two models of helminthiases (nippostrongyliasis and trichocephaliasis) were used to reveal the therapeutical activity of leukinferon (LF). In experimental nippostrongyliasis, the efficacy of LF was similar to that in infected young rats and mice whose sensitivity and resistance to infections were different. In the model of trichocephaliasis, the therapeutical effect of leukinferon was noticeably higher in C57BL/6 mice resistant to T. muris than in sensitive mice strains. In intact animals, LF brought about similar lymphocytic prestimulation depending on their sensitivity to infection. The infection itself also caused increased LF levels comparable to those observed during LF administration to intact animals. LF-induced differences in cell prestimulation were especially great as infection progressed in animals whose sensitivity to host helminths was opposite. The levels of splenocytic LF was higher in resistant hosts (non-inbred mice with nippostrongyliasis and C57BL/6 mice with trichocephaliasis) that under the similar experimental conditions in animals (rats with nippostrongyliasis and DBA/2j mice with trichocephaliasis sensitive to host helminths).
