[Anatomy and topography of the parasternal lymph nodes in the adult].

A topographo-anatomical study of parasternal lymph nodes in male and female humans, aged 22--85, carried out. Lymph nodes were identified by preparation method, following interstitial injection of Jerota's blue fluid into mammary tissue, diaphragmatic surface of the liver, pleura, pericardium and diaphragm. The numbers of parasternal lymph nodes were determined for each age bracket of males and females. Parasternal lymph nodes at the level of intercostal spaces and costal cartilages on both sides of the sternum were counted. Relatively more lymph nodes were found at the right-hand side than at the left. There are relatively more parasternal lymph nodes at the level of three upper intercostal spaces on both sides of the sternum; these nodes are larger, too.

[The ultrastructural characteristics of the organization of the postcapillary venules of a lymph node].

A comparative investigation has been undertaken to study the initial and terminal parts of the postcapillary venules (PCV) in the rat lymph nodes in order to reveal certain structural peculiarities of endothelium in the actively functioning venular zones at a transmural transport of lymphocytes. Certain morphological peculiarities have been detected in the endothelial lining at the place where it passes from the capillary into the PVC, as well as in the initial and terminal parts of the PVC. Decrease or/and absence of tight junction near apical surfaces of endotheliocytes has been stated in the terminal parts of the venule, while similar contacts are present in the initial parts of the vessel. It has also been proved that there are some specific peculiarities in the structure of the PVC lymph node: high endothelium, great number of lymphocytes in the wall of the venule. It has been stated that not all endotheliocytes, to the same extent, participate in the transmural transport of lymphocytes. It is demonstrated by different structural organization of these cells.

[Lymphatic vessels and blood vessels of the lung and of the bronchial anastomosis after autotransplantation--an experimental study].

Changes of the lymph and blood vessels of the lung and of the bronchus anastomosis were investigated in dogs in several times after 180 autotransplantations of a lobe of the lung. The regeneration of the lymph vessels in the lung autograft started 8-14 days after the operation and was concluded 30-60 days after the operation. Afterwards the lymph vessels had the normal structure and there was no difference to the intact lung. The anatomic regeneration of the lymph vessels in the bronchus anastomosis and the lymph drain from the lung autograft started 8-9 days after the operation and was concluded within the first 14 days. The regeneration of the bronchial arterial system began 6-7 days after the autotransplantation and was completed within the first 14 days.

[Anatomy and topography of the cardial lymph nodes of the adult human stomach].

Cardial lymph nodes in the human stomach occur in 97% of cases. Their number varies from 1 to 11 (in 54% of cases--1-4). They are situated in front (in 75% of cases--from 1 to 10 nodes), to the left (in 73% of cases--from 1 to 7) and at the back (in 37% of cases--from 1 to 3) of the cardia. The most often studied lymph nodes localize simultaneously in front and to the left from the cardial opening of the stomach (in 32% of cases), or in front, to the left and to the back of it (in 20%). Size of the human cardia lymph nodes varies within the limits of 0.5 X 0.5 up to 20.4 X 11.9 mm. With age their size decreases somewhat. In 15% of cases the cardial lymph nodes together with lymphatic vessels connecting them form a closed chain in front, to the left and at the back of the cardia.

[Anatomy and topography of adult human mesenteric lymph nodes].

Topography, number and age changes of the mesenteric lymph nodes in the small intestine have been studied in 40 corpses of both sex at the age of 21-90 years. The mesenteric lymph nodes, their afferent and deferent vessels have been revealed by the method of intersticial injection of coloured masses into the small intestinal wall, as well as by a direct injection of the lymph nodes studied in the mesentery. Variability in the total number of the mesenteric lymph nodes has been demonstrated; topographic borders of separate groups of the mesenteric lymph nodes have been stated; topography of the lymph nodes as regards the mesenteric blood vessels has been described. Quantitative changes (total and group) in the mesenteric lymph nodes with age in grown-up persons have been demonstrated.

[Vascular-neurocytic interrelations in the ganglionic layer of the dog retina exposed to gravitational overloading].

By means of anatomical and histological methods and a morphometric analysis, microcirculatory vessels of the reticular ganglionary layer in the dog eye were studied within Scharrer's zone with special reference to the reciprocal arrangement of the vessels and opticoganglionary cells under normal conditions and at overloadings (9 units for 10 min) applied in the direction head--pelvis (I series) and pelvis--head (II series). It was stated that immediately after the overloading in the direction head--pelvis the microcirculatory vessels grew narrow and the area of the vascular-neurocytic contacts decreased. At the overloading applied in the direction pelvis--head, the diameter of the vascular-neurocytic contacts sharply increased. In both series of the experiment the vessels became deformed and twisted and the vascular wall permeability was disturbed.

[Human lymph node asymmetry and its applied importance].

At studying various groups of the human lymph vessels (inguinal, axillary, peristernal, deep cervical, superior tracheobroncheal, etc.) a certain asymmetry in their structure has been noted. The number of similar lymph nodes at either side is not equal: their number is greater at the right side than at the left. As a rule, the range between maximum and minimum is greater in men than in women. Asymmetry of the male lymph nodes is more pronounced than that in the female. There are certain differences in size and position of the lymph nodes regarding large blood vessels. In most cases, the indices on number and size of the lymph vessels are inversely proportional. As to the microscopical structure of the lymph nodes, the asymmetry is revealed in different structure of only some structural components and separate cellular elements, which are assumed to be more labile at asymmetry of the human body functions. The data obtained on different structure of the left- and right-sided lymph nodes of the same name contribute to our knowledge on anatomy of these organs and can be used in practical medicine.

[Anatomical variants of the lymphatic vessels connecting the inguinal lymph nodes].

The study of anatomical variants of lymphatic vessels connecting inguinal lymph nodes was carried out on 56 corpses of adult persons of both sex whose deaths were not connected with lesions in the lymphatic system of the pelvis and lower extremities. The inguinal lymph nodes and their afferent and efferent lymphatic vessels were detected by the method of intradermal injection and by the method of direct injection into the lymphatic vessels. It was stated that groups of the inguinal lymph nodes, as well as the nodes in every group determined, can serve as nodes of different stages for afferent lymphatic vessels running from different parts of the body and organs.

[Alteration of the construction and cellular composition of ileo-colonic lymph nodes of rhesus macaques after administration of salmonella vaccine].

In stained histological sections, percentage ratio of areas to different cellular elements in structural components of the ileocolonic lymph nodes was studied in mature Macaca rhesus, normal and after injection of salmonella vaccine. A rather considerable reaction in all structural components and cell composition of the lymph nodes was demonstrated as a response to immunization of the animals. These changes were demonstrated in decreased area occupied by the cortical substance and in increased area occupied by the medullar substance of the lymph node. In the cortical substance, together with decrease in the cortical plateau, total number of folliculi rises with formation of light centers in them. Calculation of cellular elements revealed that in the cortical substance cytopoietic function was inhibited; that was expressed in decreasing mitoses and blast forms in the cells. Most drastic alterations occur in myelin cords of the lymph nodes. Together with increasing area, a considerable reaction of acidophilic leucocytes, premature plasma cells and macrophages is observed. Their number increases notably.

[Microscopic structure of the mesenteric lymph nodes of monkeys].

The structure and cytoarchitectonics of mesenterial lymph nodes were studied in thin histological sections by different methods. Under study were 5 rhesus monkeys and 3 hamadryas baboons. The square surface of different structural elements of the nodes (the cortical and medullary substances, follicles, the connective tissue framework, sinuses) occupied by them in sections was calculated and the amount of cellular elements was determined (%). Comparison of the data obtained in rhesus monkeys and baboons speaks of certain species-specific features of the organs under study. The morphological picture of lymph node sections in baboons (as compared with rhesus monkeys) might suggest earlier ageing of nodes in baboons.

[Cytological structure of the thymus gland in mature monkeys].

Histological sections of the thymus were studied morphometrically in 5 rhesus monkeys and 3 hamadryas baboons. The ratio of square surfaces of the cortical and cerebral substance, the percentage of Hassall's corpuscles and cellular elements (lymphocytes, stromal elements, blasts etc.) were established in the organ. Individual and species peculiarities of the structure of thymus elements were found. Less amount of parenchyma and growth of the stroma in baboons and a greater mitotic complex in rhesus monkeys show more pronounced involution processes in baboons.

[Anatomy of the lymph vessels and nodes of the head and neck in green marmosets].

In 50 mature green monkeys, the lymphatic system of the skin on the hairy part of the skull (occipital, parietal, frontal) and on the face was studied. The lymphatic vessels of cranial and cervical organs flow into submental, submandibular (anterior, medial, posterior) lymph nodes and into profound cervical (cranial, medial, caudal) lymph nodes. Lymph nodes together with efferent lymphatic vessels form lymph collectors of the neck which follow the blood vessels branching: superficial jugular, profound jugular and paratracheal network.

[Influence of sex on children's body measurements and indices of biological age (findings from a study of twins of different sexes)].

By antropometry and roentgenography methods in 52 twin pairs of different sex, body dimensions, the third metacarpal bone and the phalange of the third right hand finger, as well as the terms of permanent teeth eruption were studied. The investigation revealed no timely coincident periods in growth activity between girls and boys. During the first period (6,5--10 years), predominance of some dimentions is observed in boys, during the second (8,5--14 years)--in girls, and during the third (11--17 years)--in boys again. Somewhat different terms for permanent teeth eruption make it possible to distinguish two periods: 7 years when the boys surpass the girls in the number of permanent teeth (two teeth in average) and 8--14 years when the boys lag behind the girls in the number of permanent teeth.
