The migration of macrophages after phagocytosis in chick bone marrow.

The migration of macrophages in chick bone marrow was studied by histoplanimetry after an intravenous injection of colloidal carbon or iron-dextran. In the initial stages after the injection, carbon-laden macrophages were found only in the sinus, where erythrocytopoiesis took place. The carbon-laden macrophages then passed through the sinus wall and gradually migrated from the sinus to the extravascular area (i.e., the granulocytopoietic region) peaking at 1 to 3 days after injection. After 7 days, almost all the carbon-laden macrophages accumulated to form "macrophage islets" mainly around the lymphatic nodules in the extravascular area. In the cases injected with iron-dextran, the movement of iron-laden macrophages was similar to that of the carbon-laden ones. The similarity suggests that the direction and time of migration of macrophages are independent of ingested materials.

Cementifying fibroma of the maxilla. Report of a case.

A case of cementifying fibroma growing into the right maxillary sinus is reported. Clinical and histopathological findings are presented. The differentiation from central fibro-osseous lesions in jaw bones is discussed.

Quantitative histological studies on the spleen of ducks after neonatal thymectomy and bursectomy.

The duck spleen was examined histoplanimetrically after neonatal surgical thymectomy, cyclophosphamide treatment, and/or X-ray irradiation. The development of the periarterial lymphoid tissues, which consisted mainly of small lymphocytes, was inhibited in the spleen of the Tx and Tx-X ducks. The peri-ellipsoidal lymphoid tissues, consisting of pyroninophilic medium or large sized lymphocytes, was greatly depleted in the Bx and/or CY ducks. The germinal centres also showed probable bursa dependency. On the other hand, the development of the perivenous lymphoid tissue was not inhibited after Tx and Bx. A number of plasma cells was distributed in the red pulp of the Bx and/or CY duck spleen.

Hyperdynamic beta-adrenergic circulatory state. A case report.

A 22-year-old Japanese male with hyperdynamic beta-adrenergic circulatr without premedication. An abnormal electrocardiographic pattern was observed during the dental treatment, which was analyzed from the standpoint of beta-adrenergic receptors and drugs. During treatment, local anesthetics without adrenergic beta-stimulant would be desirable but premedication with beta blocker may be enough even when anesthetic agents with beta-stimulators are used. Furthermore, premedication with minor tranquilizers is also effective.
