[The functional characteristics of the reproductive system in women who are heterozygous carriers of 21-hydroxylase deficiency].

This paper reports the results of evaluation of reproductive histories of 52 heterozygous female carriers of 21-hydroxylase deficiency who gave birth to children with classic congenital adrenocortical hyperplasia. Functional ACTH adrenal tests of these women were compared with those in a control group of noncarriers. Test findings are discussed with respect to the pathogenesis of reproductive tract disorders in the carriers of a mutant gene.

[Prospects of the use of neoplasm antigens as markers of gynecologic diseases].

CA-125 antigen was assayed in 108 patients with the most prevalent gynecologic diseases by enzyme immunoassay. Its blood levels were found to be under 35 U/ml in the patients with inflammatory diseases. In endometriosis and benign ovarian tumors CA-125 concentrations in the blood were elevated. Malignant tumors of the ovaries were detected in 80 percent of the examinees. CA-125 levels reduced after surgical treatment in 72 percent of patients. These data permit a conclusion that CA-125 diagnostic agent may be used to monitor the course of the postoperative period and assess the late results of treatment.

[Anatomic and functional characteristics of resistant ovaries].

Resistant ovary syndrome has been confirmed in 42 women using clinical, roentgenologic (craniography, hysterosalpingography, pneumogynecography, electroencephalography), genetic, sonographic, endoscopic and histologic studies. Fibrocystic breast disease was identified in 64% and normal ovarian size in 74% of the patients with resistant ovary syndrome. Progesterone test was positive in 84% of the patients. Resistant ovary syndrome was associated with higher serum estradiol levels as compared with ovarian dystrophy and pure gonadal dysgenesis. Diagnosis confirmation requires ovarian biopsy with a histological examination of ovarian specimen, but its outcome is not always significant.

[Interaction of pregna-D'-pentaranes--pentacyclic derivatives of progesterone--with gestagen-binding sites of uterine cytosol].

The interaction of promegestone (R-5020), progesterone (P) and its derivatives having and additional carbocyclic D' (pregna-D'-pentrans) with progestin-binding cytosol system of the uterus was studied in different species (rabbits, rats, guinea-pigs and men). A comparative analysis of the competitive binding data for the mentioned compounds has shown interspecies differences in ligand specificity. Two types of binding sites for 3H-D'-pentran (in contrast to R-5020 and P) have been detected in rabbit uterus cytosol, both in intact and estrogenized animals. However, in rabbits, estrogenization altered the values of the apparent equilibrium constants and binding capacities. At the same time, the interaction of pentran with progestin-binding sites in guinea-pig and human uterus cytosol is nonspecific. It is suggested that the features of the interaction of 3H-D'-pentran with its binding sites in rabbit uterus cytosol may be determined by an increase in hydrophobic bond.
