[Rheological properties of the blood in ischemic heart disease].

The rheologic properties of blood were studied in 40 patients with ischemic heart disease both with affected and with intact cardiac coronary arteries (according to the findings of angiography) and in 13 persons with cardialgia due to vegetovascular dystonia. Significant hemorheologic pathology according to all values was revealed in patients with ischemic heart disease. It was noted that the growth of the fluidity threshold depends on the developing pathologic erythrocyte aggregation which is not associated with changes in the concentration of plasma fibrinogen. The importance of disorders in blood rheology in the origin of angina pectoris and myocardial infarction is discussed.

[Changes in hemorheologic indices during hemorrhagic shock].

Experiments were conducted on dogs. A study was made of interrelationship between the rheological, hemodynamic and metabolic indices in hemorrhagic shock. As found, mechanical properties of the blood altered after the blood loss in parallel with the macrohemodynamic disturbances and preceded metabolic acidosis. A conclusion was drawn that determination of blood fluidity threshold could be applied for the establishment of the extent of hemodynamic disturbance in shock.

[Photoassimilation of organic compounds by Thiocapsa roseopersicina].

The cells of the purple sulphur bacterium Thiocapsa roseopersicina, strain BBS, incorporate 14C contained in succinate, lactate, pyruvate, and acetate. Organic compounds with an exception of pyruvate and fumarate produce no considerable effect on the rate of carbon dioxide photoassimilation by the cells though propionate, glycerol, glucose, lactate, and succinate decrease in the same conditions the rate of sulphide oxidation by 20-50%. The rate of 14C-bicarbonate incorporation into the cells in the absence of inorganic H-donor is highest in the presence of propionate, glycerol, glucose as well as lactate and pyruvate after growth of the bacterium on media containing these substrates. A possibility of utilization by T. roseopersicina, strain BBS, of exogenous organic substrates is discussed.

[Acetate photometabolism in Ectothiorhodospira shaposhnikovii].

The cells of Ectothiorhodospira were cultivated under autotrophic conditions and assimilated 14C-acetate in the presence of bicarbonate. The label was incorporated rapidly into phosphoglyceric acid (PGA) and phosphorous esters (PE) of sugars, into compounds of the tricarboxylic acid cycle (TAC), aspartate, glutamate. After some time the content of the label became the highest in glutamate and decreased in other compounds. The same products were formed upon the assimilation of acetate by the cells cultivated in its presence. However, the amount of PGA and PE of sugars, especially those formed in the presence of sulphides, was less, and their curve had a positive slope. Fluoroacetate inhibited the incorporation of 14C from acetate in the cells and caused an increase of labeled citrate. Iodacetate inhibited almost completely the fixation of CO2 by the cells in the presence of sulphide; the fixation of carbon dioxide constituted about 60 percent of the control if both sulphide and acetate were present in the medium. Therefore, the assimilation of acetate by Ect. shaposhnikovii can be accomplished via the glyoxylate shunt and TAC, and also as a result of action of pyruvate synthase and the production of C4- and C5-organic acids with the participation of CO2. The pathways of acetate metabolism depend on the growth conditions and on the presence of sulphide in the medium.

[Hemorheological and clinical efficiency of a new phospholipid hepatoprotective drug Phosphogliv in patients with psoriatic arthritis].

A new phospholipid drug "Posphogliv" showed earlier good results in the treatment of liver discases. The mechanism of its effect consists in non-specific repair of biomembranes. In the present study it was used for the treatment of in patients with psoriatic arthritis, accompanied by severe damages of blood rheology. The group of patients took Phosphogliv 3 months in the dose of 0.6 g per day. Considerable decrease of erythrocytes aggregability was observed after the treatment. There were no changes in total blood viscosity. The clinical state of patients markedly improved after the treatment. Simultaneous decrease of blood C-reactive protein level suggests weakening of inflammation. The mechanism of these effects may involve direct influence of the phospholipid on erythrocyte membranes and/or with indirect influence through the improvement of liver function. The results show that Phosphogliv inclusion into therapy improved the state of patients with psoriatic arthritis. The results of the present study also indicate principal possibility of broadening of clinical use of this drug. Its positive effects are based on membrane reparative properties of polyunsaturated phosphatidylcholine in combination with anti-inflammatory and immunomodulative effects of its second component, glycyrrhizin acid.
