[Cervical tuberculous adenitis in the adult. Diagnostic, therapeutic considerations apropos of 27 cases].

The authors review 27 cases of cervical tuberculosis in the adult, complete and homogeneous and essentially describe their experience concerning positive diagnostic factors as well as their therapeutic approach. Considering the results obtained, they favour early surgical treatment ranging from simple adenectomy to complete and conservative cellulo-lympho-adenectomy which is the essential treatment of choice in multi-nodal forms. This surgical attitude makes possible to considerably shorten the duration of the local course by eliminating recurrences but on the essential condition that it is accompanied by prolonged medical treatment consisting of a triple association of major anti-tuberculous drugs.

[Is germectomy of the wisdom teeth truly of value in orthodontics? (author's transl)].

The long-term results of treatment of various dentomaxillary dysharmonies demonstrate that these are influenced very little or not at all by prophylactic germectomy of the wisdom teeth. It would appear, in fact, that recurrent malpositioning in the anterior region is related more to problems concerning variations in inclination of the alveolar processes, than to a suggested posterior encumbrance.

[Trichorhinophalangeal syndrome : analysis of craniofacial architecture in six cases (author's transl)].

The trichorhinophalangeal syndrome, first described by Giedon in 1966, is a condition characterized not only by skeletal, nasal, and phanerian anomalies, but by typical changes in craniofacial architecture : the vertical height of the face and cranium is increased, and there is broadening of the sagittal maxillomandibular width compensatory bilateral retroalveoli. According to Delaire, who analyzed the craniofacial architecture, the primary etiological feature of the characteristic craniofacial modifications observed in this syndrome is a reduction in size of the craniofacial basal structure.

[Anti-Candida salivary immunoglobulins. Evidence of a specific local immune reaction (author's transl)].

Parotid saliva was studied in 119 subjects, some of whom were demonstrated as carrying Candida albicans in the oral cavity. No significant differences were found in the levels of total salivary IgA between the two groups, but specific IgA levels in the saliva differed significantly between the groups with or without the presence of Candida albicans. This confirms the existence of a specific local immunological response in the parotid saliva.

[Salivary pH during pregnancy. Relationship with the presence or absence of Candida albicans. A study of 200 cases (author's transl)].

Salivary (Stenon, Warthon) and lingual pH, the effect of the presence or absence of Candida albicans in the oral cavity, and the involvement of various adjacent factors (caries, hygiene, pregnancy gingivosis, other mucosal lesions) were studied in 200 pregnant women. Results demonstrated that salivary pH is significantly related to the age of pregnancy, but not to the presence or absence of candida albicans.

[Orthodontic and surgical approach to mandibular prognathia. Prevention of recurrences].

The authors emphasize the necessity for a combined orthodontic and surgical approach to the problems posed by the treatment of mandibular prognathia. They feel that the major source of recurrences is related to the alveolar changes which accompany the new basal maxillo-mandibular relationship and the resultant modifications in muscular equilibrium. The prevention of recurrences must therefore take into account the prediction of adaptive remodelling of the alveolar processes.

[Unusual association of a papillary cystadenoma and a mixed tumor of the parotid].

The authors describe the exceptional association within the same parotid gland of two oncologically different tumours. This provides them with material for discussion concerning the value of pre- and per-operative histological tests and leads them to put in a plea for total parotidectomy leaving the facial nerve intact.
