[Temporal osteomuscular flap. Anatomical study and experimental and surgical technic].

Mandibular reconstruction can be realized through use of an osteo-muscular flap of the temporal bone by a sagittal rotation around it's principal vessels. Experiments and anatomy study have desined the details of the technique which has been demonstrated in one clinical case. In spite of the necessity of neurosurgical collaboration the technique is easy and rapid and the flap's excellent blood supply makes it a good choice when local conditions of mandibular osteoplasty are bad.

[Rational surgical treatment of mandibular retrognathism].

The authors expose their approach in the surgical treatment of mandibular retrognathism. They study the anomalies in the transverse, vertical and sagittal directions. They increase the transverse size of the maxilla by the mean of an original technique ("trident" osteotomy) recently described. Also they show several technical procedures about incisions, osteotomies and osteosynthesis.

[Value of the surgical treatment of subcondylar fractures. Apropos of a comparative study of 24 cases of luxation-fractures treated by to-and-fro osteosynthesis or by active protrusive mobilization].

Regarding the bad results of the orthopaedic treatment of subcondylar dislocated mandibular fractures, the authors present a comparative study of two series of twelve patients: one (group "A") with orthopaedic treatment; the other one (group "B") with surgical treatment by "up and down" pinning via a temporal approach. The results of surgical treatment seem to be better than those of orthopaedic treatment, as it can be seen in some other papers. The choice of the surgical technique of osteosynthesis and the indications are then discussed. It seems to be necessary to improve the specific instrumentation for wider indications an better results.

[Surgical reduction of facial vertical axis excess (author's transl)].

A variation is proposed in the surgical technique employed to treat facial vertical axis excess (Long Face Syndrome). The conventional osteotomy used to treat Le Fort's fracture by means of wide horizontal incisions has been modified. The excessive height of the maxilla is treated by vertical incisions united by tunnels, osteotomy of the posterior wall of the maxillary sinus using the "egg-shell" technique, contention by Champy's plates, and genioplasty to correct the constantly exaggerated height of the mandibular symphysis.

[Anatomical sections at low temperature].

The authors present anatomical sections realized with a "scanigraph": an unedited self acting apparatus specially conceived for the exploration of anatomical specimens. It is possible to take photographs of successive parallel plans, scanned at 18, 9 or 6 pictures by millimeter. With the help of a computer, anatomical sections could be reconstituted in orthogonal projection and axial incidence. The results obtained reveal a new process in anatomical investigation.

[Stomatitis and antimitotics (author's transl)].

The authors report a case of stomatitis, in a patient receiving antimitotic therapy, which was found to be due to an acute leukosis. They feel that patients on antimitotics who develop stomatitis should have a white cell count to exclude leukosis, which is not a very rare finding today.

[Cervical and cervicodorsal flaps. Vascularisation. Surgical applications (author's transl)].

The authors used injected anatomical specimens to analyse the cutaneous vascular distribution of the cervical and cervicodorsal regions. The arrangement of the arterial network does not make it possible to define flaps with a vascular pedicle. Only the jugular vein may be used as the axis for such a flap. The most valuable flaps, in everyday practice, are transverse flaps, a vertical flap pediculated on the external jugular and the cervicodorsal flap used without autonomisation. The combined musculocutaneous flap, including the sternocleidomastoid, is used in the treatment of extensive loss of laterofacial substance.

[Calification of the dental system in dialized patients].

The authors present the case of an eight-years-old child, dialysed since the age of two following a bilateral nephrectomy. The chronological appearance of the teeth was not disturbed. By contrast, there was a delay in mineralisation of the dental organ, and in particular the root. There was lysis of the alveolar bone, resulting in a parodontopathy. The authors distinguish two ages in the effects of dialysis: the first period is that of the construction of the dental system and the second is the adult age at which the dental system is constituted.

Acute Kidney Injury↗

[Esthesioneurocytoma of the upper jaw].

The authors present a new case of aesthesioneurocytoma with an atypical localisation. They review the clinical, radiological and histological features of these tumours. They stress the importance of mixed surgical/radiotherapy treatment and suggest the desirability of routine estimation before and after treatment of U. M. A. and U. V. A. Dopamine in the urine.

[Recurrence factors in the surgical treatment of prognathism of the mandible].

With regard to recurrences following surgery for prognathia of the mandible, the authors draw the distinction between immediate and secondary recurrences caused by errors in surgical indication or technique. They then review late recurrences, which they classify as being alveolar, basal or by forward sliding. They then study the role played in recurrences by growth of the condyle, neuromuscular balance and the hyoid suspensor system. Finally they stress the action of the tongue and the age factor (over 17 years being, in their view, desirable).

[Semeiologic meaning of dilatation of the dental canal].

The authors report two cases of dilatation of the dental canal due to metastases. They review the clinical picture of dilatations of the dental canal which, other than being related to metastases, may be secondary to a haemangioma or a neurofibroma. They express the desire that measurements may be helpful in considering cases at the limit of normal, as for the internal auditory meatus and the optic canals.
