[The value of pyrophosphate scintigraphy for the assessment of the activity of spondylarthritis ankylopoietica (author's transl)].

Seriological and scintigraphic activity was compared in 29 patients with spondylarthritis ankylopoietica (Bechterew's disease). Among our cases, 11 serologically active patients also had positive scans. the details being: cervical vertebral column in 5, thoracic vertebral column in 7 cases and the lumbar vertebral column and iliosacral joint in all 11 patients. In the group of 16 serologically inactive patients, 12 cases could be confirmed radiologically, in the remaining 4 early detection of ankylosing spondylarthritis was possible from the scintigraphic findings in combination with the clinical symptoms. The clinically suspected diagnosis of an incipient Bechterew's disease could not be justified in the remaining 2 patients who had no positive scintigraphic or serological results.

[Isotope diagnostic findigs in nephroptoses].

Radiorenography, serial scans and clearance determinations using 131-I-Iodohippurate and 51-CPr-EDTA were performed on a total of 106 patients with unilateral nephroptosis. In 45 of them with pathological findings in the upright position the examination was repeated in the prone position. 19 patients underwent nephropexy and were reexamined 2 to 6 weeks there after. The results suggest that the combination of different radioisotope methods provides a valuable and sensitive means to detect posture-dependent impairment of kidney and urinary tract function and yields an additional objective basis for the selection of patients for nephropexy.

[20 min 99mTc thyroid uptake (author's transl)].

The 20 min 99mTc thyroid uptake compares favourably with the more time consuming 24 h 131J uptake because it results in a lower radiation dose to the thyroid gland. The reliability of both methods is nearly the same. In all conditions in which the 131J uptake is altered, a similar deviation of the 99mTc uptake has been found. A single exception are patients treated with antithyroid drugs (together with thyroid hormones), who show frequently an elevated 99mTc uptake (in contrast to the 131J uptake). Prognostic conclusions have been drawn by other autors from the 99mTc uptake in similar cases.
