Tracheobronchopathia osteochondroplastica (TO) is a rare disease, although it probably occurs more frequently than expected. During an eight-year period, nine patients with TO were found among 2,180 performed bronchoscopies. There were four women and five men, with a mean age of 60 years. Cough, expectoration, dyspnea, hemoptysis, and recurrent airway infections were common, and most of the patients had had symptoms for more than ten years. Bronchoscopy revealed multiple yellow-white, hard, papilla-like formations reaching from the trachea to the segmental bronchi. Microscopy of biopsy specimens from the macroscopically altered mucosa showed osteocartilaginous tissue typical for TO in all patients. In eight of the patients spirometry showed an obstructive pattern.

Bronchial chondromas are usually treated by thoracotomy and resection of a lung segment or lung lobe. This case report describes the endobronchial resection of a bronchial chondroma by flexible fiberoptic bronchoscopy in a 61-year-old man.
A new flexible thin needle for transbronchial aspiration biopsy through the flexible fiberoptic bronchoscope has been developed. The instrument is described and the experience gained in 53 transbronchial punctures is reported. The needle is a suitable adjunct to other accessories for use with the flexible fiberoptic bronchoscope.
Pneumothorax is a rare manifestation of lung cancer. It has been reported to date in a total of about 25 patients. We describe two patients with spontaneous pneumothorax as the first sign of a bronchial carcinoma.
Serum group I pepsinogens (PG I) values were determined by a radioimmunoassay method in blood drawn from women at different times during pregnancy, at delivery, and 4 days after delivery. They were divided into five groups according to sampling time: group I, 0-14 weeks of pregnancy; group II, 15-27 weeks; group III, 28-40 weeks; group IV, at delivery; and group V, 4 days after delivery. No significant difference between the mean serum PG I in the various groups was found, and the mean PG I value in each group was of the same magnitude as previously found in non-pregnant controls. Since serum PG I has been reported to be positively correlated with gastric acid and pepsin secretion, this study suggests that other factors are involved in the apparently reduced occurrence of peptic ulcer during pregnancy.
