Respiratory gas exchange in the rat spleen in situ and intrasplenic oxyhemoglobin saturation.

Measurements of splenic respiratory gas exchange and of HbO2 saturations in the red pulp of the rat spleen have shown that there are no indications of a reduced intrasplenic O2 availability during normoxia. The present studies provide evidence that, in the normal spleen, the intrasplenic sequestration of red blood cells cannot be explained by an O2 deficiency in the red pulp since the commonly accepted notion of an intrasplenic hypoxia is not true.

[The course of the gamma globulines in septic patients of an intensive care unit (author's transl)].

In 19 septic patients from an intensive care unit, changes were found in the gamma-globulin-fractions with the use of the quantitative immunelectrophoresis. This technique of study presents a great improvement over the diagnostic methods which were used previously. In addition, the possibility is offered to treat the detected deficiencies in certain Ig-fractions and to provide a more directed treatment with antibiotics.

[Premedication with doxepin (author's transl)].

The effects of doxepin on the circulation and its anxiety relieving properties were studied in 67 patients who were premedicated with this drug before surgical operations. The findings showed that doxepin is very suitable for premedication on account of its sedative, tranquilizing and analgesic properties. It also reduced secretion of mucus and saliva. In a few cases it caused mild orthostatic circulatory dysregulation. The drug was well tolerated and has proved its value for routine administration.
