[Mycetoma of the lungs].

Mycetomas of the lungs are, as a rule, localized in the upper (62), medial (22) and very rarely (8) in the lower portions of the lungs. Most frequent localization is the right lung. Operations were fulfilled on 68 of 92 patients. Surgery was shown to be the most effective method of treatment of patients with lung mycetomas. It results in complete and clinical recovery.

[Relation between lymph flow and pressure in the interstitium and the degree of hydration of the lungs].

In 25 isolated canine lungs perfused through the pulmonary or bronchial vessels, lung lymph flow and interstitial pressure of the alveolar and peribronchium interstitium were studied. Lung lymph flow in both kinds of perfusion is the function of interstitial pressure which supports the convectional theory of lymph genesis in the lung. The data obtained reveal considerable distinctions between alveolar and peribronchial interstitial spaces fluid pressure-volume characteristics which determine qualitative features of lymph transport.

[Perfusion microfilter for blood].

The authors have developed a variant of microfilters for extracorporal perfusions possessing the following functional characteristics: square surface of filtrating elements 150 cm2, volume of filling 80 ml, efficiency not less than 6 1/min, filtration of micro-aggregates 30 mkm and more in 70-98%. The microfilter may be used in the arterial line and in the line of the cardiotomic suction.

[Centenary of the world's 1st chair for the postgraduate training of pathologicoanatomists (1885-1985)].

Characterization of teaching and specialization of pathologists, beginning from the pre-revolution time up to our days, is given in a brief historical review devoted to the 100th anniversary of the Chair of Pathology. The main directions of scientific work for 100 years of the Chair existence are presented and its importance for public health is outlined.

[Lymph flow from the lungs in conditions of normal capillary permeability].

The source of the lung lymph formation was studied in 8 experiments on dogs and in 30 experiments on isolated lungs. The former revealed the effect of bronchial vessels ligature upon the lung lymph outflow, the latter series aided to trace the lymph flow in perfusion of the lung artery's vessels and bronchial vessels. The section of bronchial vessels decreased by 4-6 times the lymph outflow. No lymph outflow was observed in perfusion of isolated lungs whereas in perfusion of bronchial vessels the lymph flow was directly related to the pressure level in the bronchial vessels. These vessels are concluded to be of the primary importance for the lung lymph formation.

[Development and clinical use of blood microfilters].

Special microfilters made on the basis of meshy and not woven materials were used for the prevention of microembolic complications in hemotranfusions and perfusions. The results of testing and clinical use of the filters in patients during and after extracorporal perfusions following operations on the open heart are described. The advantages of not woven materials over meshy material for the filtration are shown. The postoperative course in 184 patients after the application of blood microfilters is analyzed. The positive effect is shown.
