[Comparative evaluation of three techniques of passive haemoagglutination for the determination of HBsAg (author's transl)].

The AA. studied the reaction of indirect haemoagglutination for the determination of HBsAg in 157 sera from patients with viral hepatitis, with 3 differents commercial tests based on the agglutination by HBsAg, respectively, of sheep, turkey and human erythrocytes sensitized with antibody to HBsAg. All three techniques showed a high sensibility comparable to that of the RIA. Regarding specificity the best results were obtained with the turkey and human erythrocytes, while the sheep erythrocytes because of the presence of some aspecific positivity, need a confirmatory test.

[Detection of hepatitis B antigens by use of the immunoenzymatic method (ELISA)].

The Authors investigated HBs antigen with an immunoenzymatic method (E.L.I.S.A.) in the sera of RIA and I.H. HBsAg positive hepatitis patients, in the sera of RIA and I.H. HBsAg-negative hepatitis patients and in those of normal subjects. E.L.I.S.A. test supplied results almost superposable to those obtained by RIA and therefore it seems worthy to be included among the most reliable techniques to detect hepatitis B surface antigen.

[The ELISA test in immunodiagnosis of human hydatidosis. Preliminary observations].

An evaluation of the E.L.I.S.A. method, compared to the indirect hemagglutination (I.H.) and to the counterimmunoelectrophoresis (CIEP) tests for the biological diagnosis of hydatidosis, was performed on 31 sera of patients, carrier of hydatid cysts, on 17 sera of patients with other infectious and parasitic diseases, and on 7 sera of blood donors. The immunoenzymatic test turned out positive in 30 out of the 31 sera of the patients with active hydatidosis (96.7%), while IH and CIEP turned out positive in 29 cases (93.5%). The control sera from patients with other diseases proved to be all negative, except one from a patient with active schistosomiasis. E.L.I.S.A. test was constantly negative with the sera of normal subjects. The validity and usefulness of E.L.I.S.A test for the diagnosis of the hydatid disease is discussed.

[Relations between hepatitis B surface antigen and parasitic diseases: observations in patients with ancylostomiasis and schistosomiasis].

Hepatitis B antigen carriage was studied in Somalia in 155 patients with ancylostomiasis, with urinary schistosomiasis and with leprosy (lepromatosus and tuberculoid type and leprosy with schistosomiasis). The results have showed a significantly (p less than 0,001) higher frequency of HBsAg among the patients with ancylostomiasis (33,33%) and with urinary schistosomiasis (25,92%) than either the leprosy patients (9,67% in the L type and 6,89% in the T type) or the controls (11,11%); in the leprosy patients with schistosomiasis the frequency was 40,0%. The role of some penetrating skin parasites in the epidemiology of hepatitis B was discussed.

[Behavior of serum IGE in human hydatidosis].

The quantitative assay of serum IgE was performed in 34 patients with active hepatic and extrahepatic hydatidosis, in 10 subjects with previous hydatidosis, who underwent surgery during the preceding 8 years, without clinical signs of relapse, and in 15 normal bloods donors. To this purpose a new type of plate from the market was employed, which, adopting radial immunodiffusion, allows determining quantitatively the IgE serum values at the upper normal limits (800 I.U./ml) besides higher levels. IgE serum concentrations, higher than 800 I.U./ml, were detected in 33 (97.06%) out of the 34 patients with active hydatidosis, in 5 (50%) out of the 10 subjects with previous hydatidosis, in 4 (26.67%) out of the 15 normal subjects. The statistical analysis of the results showed the significance of the comparison between the IgE values observed among the group of the patients with active hydatidosis and those, respectively, of the subjects with previous hydatidosis (p less than 0.05) and of the normal subjects (p less than 0.001). The results obtained are discussed in the light of the most recent knowledge on the role played by IgE in the complex immune mechanism of parasitic diseases.

[On the presence of the antibodies against diphtheria and tetanus in a sample of population].

Tth acquistion of serological techniques, as the HA-induced reaction, which can be employed on a large scale, its practical realization, the repeating of its results, has made easy the epidemiological serological research and the knowledge of the state of immunity of the population against diphtheria and tetanus. The Authors, supported by validity of the results achieved, at least in epidmiological field, wanted to estimate the presence and the title of the antidiphtheria and anti-tetanus antibodies in a sample of population living in our area, to know the factors of risk at different age. The results obtained have demonstrate as follows: in the group of the subjects ageing from 11 to 20, the 48,6% have been protective antibodies against the diphtheria and the 29,8% against the tetanus. Among the subjects, who have been surely vaccinated for 10 years at least with on or more doses of vaccine, the Authors have found a largest number of immune subjects; in the group of the subjects ageing from 21 to 30 the percentage of seropositive subjects is analogus to that one of the former group. In the male subjects, the Authors have found a higher percentage of immunity than in the female subjects, because the largest number of the former group had done their military service; the Authors have, also, observed that those subjects who are more than 31 years old, persent a decline in numbers and in percentage of those who have antibodies against diphtheria and tetanus. The Authors, on the basis of the achieved results, express their opinion about the epidemiological and of the immunity situation, and point out the deficiencies, which, in their opinion, still constant trickle of cases.
