As a result of changing health care reimbursement, a surgical services management team re-evaluated how to do business. Roles of the team members were revised; clinical standards and customer satisfaction also were examined.
Empowerment can promote a feeling of ownership, a necessary prerequisite for continuous improvement. Through this philosophy, a community hospital operating room manager began shifting responsibilities to the OR teams and leaders, resulting in a renewed sense of control and team management.
