Aneurysm of the internal carotid artery presenting as a parapharyngeal mass.
A case of saccular aneurysm of the internal carotid artery presenting as a parapharyngeal mass is being reported because of its rarity and the paucity of literature on the subject. Welling et al. (1983) evaluated 1118 aneurysms of the peripheral arteries seen over a 30-year period. Forty-one of these arose from the extracranial carotid system, only four of them being saccular aneurysms of the internal carotid artery. None of them presented with a parapharyngeal mass.

Ideal number of incisions in radial keratotomy--an experimental study.
The operation is very simple and safe and best for simple myopia. 16 ideal incisions give higher correction. Uniformity in depth of incision and steroid drops used post operatively brings higher correction.

Effect of vitamin C on platelet adhesiveness and platelet aggregation in coronary artery disease patients.
The effect of oral administration of vitamin C on platelet adhesive index (PAI), platelet aggregate ratio (PAg R) and serum ascorbic acid levels was studied. Feeding 75 g of butter to healthy males (group I, n = 10 cases), enhanced the tendency of platelet adhesiveness (PAd) and platelet aggregation (PAg) to a significant level at the end of 4 h. This was distinctly prevented when 1 g of vitamin C was added to the fatty meal. In coronary artery disease (CAD) patients (group II, n = 20 cases) 10 days of vitamin C administration at 1 g every 8 hours decreased the PAd (p less than 0.001) and PAg (p less than 0.05) significantly. There was also a significant (p less than 0.001) rise in the vitamin C levels. The study brings out a property of vitamin C which may be of considerable importance in prevention of chronic thromboatherosclerotic disease of the arteries.

An improved above-knee prosthesis with functional versatility.
An above-knee prosthesis is described which is designed to permit the patient to assume easily the squatting and sitting cross legged postures which are a part of routine living in Afro-Asian countries. The prosthesis incorporates a multibar linkage mechanism which co-ordinates knee flexion and extension with ankle dorsiflexion and plantarflexion, and a thigh rotation system fitted at the level of the knee axis.
Pregnancy in suboestrus buffaloes (Bubalus bubalis) after treatment with Prostaglandin F(2) alpha.
Seventy six apparently anoestrous buffaloes, with a palpable corpus luteum at day 43 to 547 post partum, were treated intramuscularly with Prostaglandin, using either 25 mg single dose (Group I), 25 mg double dose 11 days apart (Group II), or 50 mg single dose (Group III). Animals exhibiting oestrus, without any treatment, during the period of experimentation served as control (Group IV). The overall conception rate for the treated animals was 28.8, 51,5, and 69.7 percents after one, two, and three inseminations, respectively. The conception rate, at induced as well as subsequent oestrus, was comparable to control animals. The intergroup differences among treated animals were not significant. The conception rate was greater when the induced heat was more intensely expressed. The subsequent mean oestrus cycle length was similar to controls when all of the treated animals were considered together.
