[Effect of cerebrum compositum preparation on functional state of the central nervous system in elderly patients with ischemic stroke].

The article presents the results obtained after having treated patients with ischemic stroke during a rehabilitation period with cerebrum compositum. It has been also studied its influence on psychoemotional condition, bioelectrical activity of brain and cerebral hemodynamics. The results of the conducted trial prove cerebrum compositum remedy to have a harmonious influence on bioelectrical activity of brain and cerebral hemodynamics as well as it improves psychological state, alleviates anxiety and enhances initiative and physical activity of the treated patients. Positive complex influence on functional state of central nervous system of the medication ensure us to recommend cerebrum compositum during rehabilitation of patients having stroke positive anamnesis.

[In situ hybridization in human genome mapping].

The methodological possibilities of non-radioactive in situ hybridization of nucleic acids and its application for an immediate localization of genes and chromosomes are discussed. The advantages of a non-isotope probe labeling versus a use of radioactive substances are emphasized. Various types of compounds used as a label are distinguished. The principles of use of the above labels and the ways to improve the method in terms of increasing its sensitivity are considered. Some results obtained while using non-radioactive labelled probes are reported. It is shown promising to use this method for molecular-genetic analysis of DNA polymorphism in human genome.

[The radioprotective effect of extracts of Archangelica officinalis Hoffm. and Ledum palustre L. on mice].

A single injection of Archangelica officinalis Hoffm. and Ledum palustre L. extracts to mice 5-15 min before irradiation with a median lethal dose increased their survival rate. The most favourable effect was produced by a combination of the two preparations: by day 30 100% of animals survived after a dose of 6 Gy (LD50/30); 70% survived after a dose of 7.5 Gy (LD90/30), and 25% after a dose of 8 Gy (LD100/12). DMF for the extract mixture was 1.48.

[The modifying action of the Japanese pagoda tree (Sophora japonica) and pantocrine in radiation lesions].

A study was made of the effect of Sophora japonica and pantocrine on irradiated (2.5 Gy) human lymphoblastoid cells. The radioprotective effect was manifested with the preparations injected separately after irradiation. The highest radioprotective effect was produced by the mixture of the preparations, the injection 15 min after irradiation being more effective than preinjection. The protective effect of the agents was studied on mongrel mice after the administration thereof for the purposes of protection protection-and-treatment and treatment. Sophora japonica and pantocrine were shown to increase the survival rate of lethally exposed mice (LD90/30) when administered in a combination 5-15 min before irradiation and when used for the purposes of protection--and--treatment: 53.3% and 50% of animals, respectively, survived by day 30 following irradiation. DMF was 1.25.

Brain bioelectric activity in aging.

The data characterizing age-related changes in the brain bioelectric activity are analyzed. The above changes concern a delayed frequency spectrum of the main EEG rhythms, an increased number of pathological EEG components, a decreased reactivity, and a disturbed structure of the sleep EEG. The long-lived individuals have shown a delayed intensity of age-related changes in the brain electrogenesis. The specifics of age-related changes in the brain electrogenesis are determined by both the social-environmental and genetic factors.

[The phenomenon of transition of filamentous virions of influenza viruses into spherical virions].

A type of transition of filamentous influenza A virus virions into spherical ones differing from fragmentation is described. The transition occurs through the formation of racket-like particles. Such transitions may be initiated by deformations occurring in filamentous virions upon storage. The stability of filamentous virions depends greatly upon the ionic strength of the solution. The main regularities of this process are described. A possible mechanism of formation of filamentous virions and the factors determining their stability are discussed.

[Polymorphism of heterochromatin regions of chromosomes 1, 9, 16 and Y in long-lived persons and in persons of various ages from 2 areas of the Soviet Union].

Variants of the chromosome polymorphism have been studied in long-living individuals and in persons of the population group from the Abkhazian region. This study and a comparative analysis of the data obtained with the data of the analogous studies of 170 persons in the Ukraine have permitted establishing the peculiarities of the distribution of certain chromosome polymorphism variants in long-living individuals.

[Heteromorphism of chromosome 1, 9 and 16 homologs in persons living in regions differing in the level of longevity].

Regional and age-related peculiarities of chromosomal polymorphism are established as a result of studies in C-band heteromorphism of chromosomes 1, 9 and 16 in the long-lived subjects, their relatives and population groups of the Abkhaz and Ukrainian Republics. Heteromorphism frequencies of chromosomes 1 and 9 homologs are higher in the Abkhaz as compared with the Ukrainian Republic. Age-related differences as to the degree of expression of chromosome 9 C-band heteromorphism are found: in the Abkhaz Province the frequency of variants with a high heteromorphism degree increases with age, while in the Ukrainian one--with a low heteromorphism degree.

[Chromosomes. Aging. Longevity].

Investigations dealing with the characteristics of chromosomal apparatus at late stages of ontogenesis are analyzed. Both structural and functional changes in the chromosomal apparatus are observed in ageing. Some papers indicate to the association of certain variants of chromosomal polymorphism with the longevity "phenomenon".
