[Action of hepatic chalones on the proliferation of hepatocytes from intact and denervated livers].

The paper is concerned with the action of chalones, tissue-specific inhibitors of cell proliferation, on DNA synthesis and mitotic activity of hepatocytes in the intact and denervated liver during regeneration. Experiments were made on Wistar rats. Liver denervation was performed by bilateral subdiaphragmal vagotomy. In control and vagotomized animals, two thirds of the liver was resected. The data obtained indicate that chalones noticeably reduce the number of DNA-synthesizing cells and mitoses in the regenerating liver of intact animals. During regeneration of the denervated liver, chalones do not produce any inhibitory action on the intensity of proliferation. Analysis of the data obtained allows a conclusion that preservation of adequate innervation of the organ is needed for realization of the action of hepatic chalones.

[Changes, in the course of 24 hours, in the duration of the mitotic cycle S and G2 periods in mono- and binuclear hepatocytes of normal and thyroxinized rats].

The authors studied diurnal changes of ts and tG2 in the live of intact rats and of those given thyroxine during 6 days. Duration of S-phase changes from 8.0 to 9.8 h in mononuclear cells and from 7.0 to 9.1 h in binuclear cells of control animals. tG2 alters from 3.3 to 4.4 and from 3.0 to 4.6, respectively. Prolonged administration of thyroxine induced decrease of tG2 in both populations of hepatocytes. It has been established for both groups of cells that the length of S-phase is shortened or prolonged during 24 hours. The alterations in the thyroxine-treated animals are 7.0--11.4 and 5.4--9.6 hours in mono- and binuclear cells, respectively. The prolonged administration of the hormone induced more synchronous changes in S-phase during 24 hours in both populations of hepatocytes.

[Importance of deep and surface lymphography in the diagnosis and treatment of postthrombotic venous insufficiency of the lower extremities].

The authors describe the results of radiopaque investigations of the venous and lymphatic systems of lower extremities in 85 patients with postthrombotic venous insufficiency. Considerable morphological and functional lesions of lymphatic vessels are developing in this disease. Changes in the deep lymphatic collector are considered to be the leading ones. The character of these changes corresponds to the clinical stage of the disease. Operation for the creation of lympho-venous anastomoses is one of the methods of surgical correction of the lymph outflow.
