[Use of phase images in radionuclide ventriculography for topical diagnosis of Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome and sources of pathologic rhythm of the heart ventricles].

The paper presents the results of the mapping of various types of the Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome and ventricular arrhythmias by using phase images of radionuclide ventriculograms as compared to 12 leads and electrophysiological studies. Phase images are a highly informative method that supplements an electrophysiological study in the topical diagnosis of abnormal tracts and ventricular arrhythmias.

Effect of plasmapheresis on the liver uptake of ApoB-lipoproteins labeled with technetium-99m.

To study liver low density lipoprotein (LDL)-receptor activity before and after plasmapheresis, [99mTc] very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) was used. Autologous VLDL was labeled, sterilized by filtration, and administered intravenously to patients under a gamma camera. The uptake of lipoproteins in the liver was measured by scintiscanning. Liver activity curves were generated for each patient. The liver activity in patients with the heterozygous form of familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) and in patients with symptomatic atherosclerosis (SA) without hereditary deficit of LDL receptors was reduced as compared to healthy people. Plasmapheresis enhanced the liver uptake of the 99mTc-labeled lipoproteins in atherosclerotic patients. Thus, labeled metabolites could presumably be of use in assessing the effect of plasmapheresis on liver function.

Radioimmunoimaging of lung vessels: an approach using indium-111-labeled monoclonal antibody to angiotensin-converting enzyme.

A murine monoclonal antibody against human angiotensin-converting enzyme was radiolabeled with 111In via diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid without substantial loss of antigen-binding capacity. This monoclonal antibody designated 9B9 cross-reacted with rat and monkey angiotensin-converting enzyme. Indium-111-labeled 9B9 selectively accumulated 10-20 times greater in the lung than in blood or other organs following intravenous administration in rats. Kinetics of lung accumulation and blood clearance were studied for 111In-9B9-antibody and compared to that of 125I-labeled 9B9 in rat. Highly specific accumulation of 111In-9B9-antibody in the lung of Macaca Rhesus monkeys after intravenous injection was monitored by gamma-imaging. Images of 111In-labeled antibody 9B9 biodistribution in monkey lung noticeably differ from the images of biodistribution of 99mTc-labeled albumin microspheres. This difference may provide information concerning the state of the endothelium of lung capillaries, which is different from the blood flow characteristics determined with routine microsphere technique.

[New radionuclide method of determining the proteolytic activity of the stomach contents (experimental studies)].

A possibility of the use of a radionuclide tubeless rapid method for measuring gastric content proteolytic activity (GCPA) with the help of a protein (gelatin) RP containing capsule was demonstrated in experiments in vitro. There was correlation between the time of dissolution of RP containing capsules and GCPA determined after Mett's method. Reference time intervals were established for normal, raised and lowered proteolytic activity. The method was shown to be physiological, simple and time-saving.

[Radionuclide method of determining the proteolytic activity of the stomach contents (clinical studies)].

The authors described clinical testing of a new tubeless radionuclide rapid method for measuring gastric content proteolytic activity (GCPA) using a protein (gelatin) capsule filled with a radiopharmaceutical (RP). The solution time of a capsule with a radiotracer determined by its clearance, corresponded to GCPA measured after Mett's method. The testing has shown that the above method is physiological, causes no complications and unpleasant sensations in patients, is simple to perform, and can be recommended for a wide clinical use in gastroenterology.

[Clinical aspects of the quantitative evaluation of the accumulation of Tl-201 in the myocardium].

Clinical use of the quantitative method of evaluation of myocardial perfusion reserve capacities was analysed in patients with ischaemic heart disease, dilating cardiomyopathy and essential hypertension. Using Tl(201) myocardial scintigraphy, the indicator accumulation in the myocardium was quantitatively evaluated and the interrelationship between the myocardial mass, myocardial perfusion and its reserve capacities in patients with dilative cardiomyopathy was established. It was noted that myocardial perfusion changes in patients with CHD and essential hypertension depend on changes in the cardiac pump function.

[Single-photon emission computerized tomography in the diagnosis of liver diseases].

A comprehensive examination of patients with various liver diseases was performed using the methods of axial x-ray computerized tomography, ultrasound scanning compared to plane liver scintigraphy with 99m TC-colloid and a new method of one-photon emission computerized tomography (OECT). The sensitivity of the OECT, SG and USE methods was 92.7; 75.6 and 91.4% respectively, and specificity 88.0; 72.0 and 80.0%. The authors discussed the advantages of the OECT method and its diagnostic value in liver focal and diffuse lesions.

[Determination of the size of a myocardial infarct by the technic of single-photon emission computer tomography].

A study of 38 patients with acute myocardial infarction verified by clinical, laboratory and electrocardiographic data made use of single-photon emission computered tomography, a new radiodiagnostic method for the assessment of the extent of myocardial lesion. Its findings were compared with cardiospecific enzyme activity data and showed good correlation. The new technique was found to be more informative as compared to plane scintigraphy. Possibilities of single-photon emission computered tomography are discussed with reference to the diagnosis of acute infarction at different sites and showing different radionuclide inclusion patterns.

[Emission computed tomography--new radiodiagnostic method].

A total of 224 patients with different diseases of the brain, lungs, heart, focal and chronic liver diseases, voluminous kidney changes and metastatic bone lesions were examined. A new radiodiagnostic method of emission computerized tomography was used in correlation with planar scintigraphy and x-ray computerized tomography. The author showed the value of the method in the diagnosis of the disturbed blood circulation of the organs. Its potentialities in the diagnosis of focal lesions were considered. A high informative value of the method as compared to statistical scintigraphy was noted.

[Single-photon emission computed tomography with 201Tl in the diagnosis of ischemic heart disease].

One hundred and thirty-six patients with CHD were examined by plane scintigraphy and single-photon emission computer-aided tomography (SPECT). The control group comprised 26 healthy persons. Two SPECT techniques were compared (gamma-chamber rotation at 360 and 180 degrees). In acute myocardial infarction, focal defects of perfusion were detected by SPECT in 36 out of 39 patients, those by plane scintigraphy in 30 patients. In angina pectoris patients, perfusion alterations were detected by SPECT and scintigraphy in 91.6 and 75% of cases, respectively. During tomographic examination of patients with postinfarction cardiosclerosis, the perfusion defects were revealed in 38 out of 42 patients, whereas during plane scintigraphy, such alterations were detected but in 31 patients. The advantages of SPECT and its high importance for diagnosing different patterns of CHD are discussed. It is recommended that SPECT and plane scintigraphy can be used combined in clinical practice.
