A relatively high sensitivity and specificity of indirect enzyme immunoassay using the antibody obtained from the blood of patients with P. falciparum-induced malaria in the acute period have been demonstrated. The substrate for antigen isolation is available and can be easily obtained in sufficient quantities.

The article discusses the clinical picture, diagnosis, and treatment of a rare pathologic condition of the cerebral vessels known by the Japanese name "moyamoya". Six cases with this disease among adults are described. Three patients had ischemic attacks, two young females were found to have intracerebral hematomas which were successfully evacuated. In one case the vascular anomaly became evident after a craniocerebral trauma and was manifested by subarachnoid hemorrhage and infarction in the subcortical structures.
The error in assessment of the neutrophil phagocytic activity is 5.8%. This is attained by removal of conglomerations of phagocytosis objects and by ruling out the minimal variations in the duration of contact between the blood and foreign corpuscles and preparation of smears to be examined on the same slide. The content of up to 90% red cells does not influence the neutrophil phagocytic activity, and higher concentration reduces its level.
As shown in in vitro original modelling of red cell action on phagocytic process in the whole blood of patients with urological inflammation, these patients have increased count of neutrophils involved in phagocytosis, but low specific absorption of these neutrophils due to red cells. In chronic renal insufficiency characterized by a low phagocytic activity of neutrophils only stimulating potential of red cells can be noted.
Pronounced correlation between the titers of hemagglutinating antibodies to different types of shigellae and other bacteria in healthy persons and in sick persons of control groups has been established. On the basis of this regularity a new approach to the use of the passive hemagglutination test in shigellosis, taking into account the ratio of antibody titers to different Shigella types, has been developed. This essentially increases the sensitivity and specificity of the test, thus making it possible to standardize its evaluation and permitting the effective diagnosis of shigellosis from the onset of the disease.
The functional activity of peripheral blood neutrophils was studied by their main functional and metabolic parameters. The group of chronic brucellosis patients under study included 32 patients. The control group consisted of 35 practically healthy donors. The complex of methods, used for the evaluation of the functional activity of peripheral blood neutrophil leukocytes, included the determination of adhesion, activity of nitro blue tetrazolium reduction, enzymatic activity of myeloperoxidase and acid phosphatase, the level of cation protein and the production of active forms of oxygen (AFO) by these cells. Chronic brucellosis patients were found to have disturbances in the adhesive capacity of phagocytizing cells and the production of highly bactericidal AFO. These disturbances in the activity of phagocytizing cells may be one of the mechanisms contributing to incomplete phagocytosis in chronic brucellosis in humans.
To study humoral response in patients with the generalized form of pseudotuberculosis, the agglutination test, the passive hemagglutination test and the complement fixation test with antigen obtained from "Virion" (Switzerland) were used. The study of the dynamics of antibody formation to outer membrane proteins (OMP) and Yersinia pseudotuberculosis (pYV+ and pYV-) lipopolysaccharide (LPS) revealed that the synthesis of antibodies to OMP, controlled by inv gene, exceeded the synthesis of antibodies to LPS at all periods of the disease, which determined the necessity of further study of the role of OMP in pathogenesis and in the formation of humoral response. On the basis of the study of the occurrence of antigens a high diagnostic effectiveness the enzyme immunoassay for the detection of Y. pseudotuberculosis antigens, mainly at the first stage of the disease, was noted.
