[Distribution of calcium ions in the muscle fibers of the rat diaphragm depending upon their state and the method of histochemical treatment].

Distribution of calcium ions in the rat diaphragm muscle fibers has been studied electron histochemically using various fixation techniques and chemical treatment of the tissue. When potassium pyroantimonate in water solution is used after a short perfusate fixation with aldehydes, the reaction product granules are revealed in mitochondria, in the disk I, in the center of the disk A, more seldom the precipitate is found in the sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) and in the T-system. The presence of calcium ions in the precipitate is proved by means of treatment the preparations with ethylenglycol- and ethylen-diamine-tetra-acetic acids. When contracture is resulted from potassium rhodanide administration, in mitochondria the reaction product granules decrease in their number, the precipitate disappears from the central part of the disk A, while the number of the granules increases in the SR terminal cisterns. The data obtained are compared with calcium ions distribution observed at the freezing-substitution method without an additional chemical fixation, as well as the histochemical fixations after Oschman method and at a usual fixation with OsO4. Certain similarity is revealed in distribution of the calcium pyroantimonate granules at aldehyde fixation and when the freezing-substitution method is used.

[Prophylactic aspects of human pseudotuberculosis].

For the first time the effectiveness of the complex of preventive measures carried out in the foci of human pseudotuberculosis in evaluated. It has been shown that one can control the disease, prevent group infections and outbreaks by simple sanitary and hygienic measures, such as following the rules of culinary technology and excluding raw vegetables from the diet, thus interrupting the main routes of infection transfer. These measures have proved to be effective even when the causative agent is abundant in the foci of infection. To prevent sporadic infection whose foci have the tendency to increase in number, the above-mentioned measures are not sufficient; the population must actively participate the realization of the measures of personal protection.

[Effect of armin on the ultrastructure of the neuromuscular synapse].

Alterations induced by the cholinesterase inhibitor armin (5.10(-7) g/ml) in the ultrastructure of motor nerve endings of the rat phrenic diaphragmal preparations at rest or electric stimulation of the nerve were studied. It was shown that armin at rest induced ultrastructural lesions in the endings similar to those in the control preparations during nerve stimulation. Electric stimulation did not produce additional changes in the ultrastructure of the neuromuscular junction under armin action. It is suggested that the disorder of the nerve ending function may be of importance in the mechanism of the blocking action of armin on the neuromuscular transmission.
