[Leukocyte index of intoxication in acute suppurative and inflammatory lung diseases].

The leukocyte intoxication index (LII) was examined in 292 patients with acute abscesses, pulmonary gangrenes and pneumonias. The more extended and severe the process, the higher were the LII parameters. It was the highest in patients with pulmonary gangrene, the lowest with focal pneumonia. The index is considered to represent the dynamics of the process allowing to timely diagnose the development of the disease and its complications. A simple formula of LII is proposed which makes its application easier.

[Metastatic lung abscesses].

The metastatic origin of abscesses was established in 10 of 142 patients (7%) with acute pulmonary abscesses. The disease was observed to be of severe course, being accompanied by pleural and other complications in all the cases. Thirteen distinctive signs of metastatic abscesses were revealed which determine the curative methods. The main problem in the treatment of such patients is struggle against sepsis, correction of immune processes in the organism, sanitation of the abscess cavity through the tracheobronchial tree and liquidation of pleural complications.

[The leukocytic index of intoxication and some blood parameters in the evaluation of the severity of inflammatory, purulent, and pyodestructive diseases at various sites and in the determination of their prognosis].

The leukocytic index of intoxication (LII), hemoglobin, leukocytes, and lymphocytes were studied in patients with inflammatory, purulent, and pyodestructive diseases of the abdomen, lung, and soft tissues. It was shown that Lll progressively increased and the levels of lymphocytes decreased as the states deteriorated in all groups of patients, particularly in those who died due to ineffective treatment. This all testifies to the diagnostic and predictive value of these parameters and they may be wider used in the treatment of patients with inflammatory, purulent, and pyodestructive diseases at various sites. This is indicated by the values obtained by the end of treatment of patients.

[Specific antimicrobial immunity in patients with suppurative soft-tissue diseases undergoing conventional and modified ultraviolet irradiation of autologous blood].

Study of titers of specific antibacterial antibodies in the plasma by passive hemagglutination test and of the number of antibody-producing cells (APC) by local hemolysis test in patients with purulent diseases of soft tissues showed that both values increased after UV exposure of autoblood. This increase was more expressed after differentiated exposure of erythrocytic and leukocytic mass than after common UV exposure, which is explained by more complete exposure of leukocytes participating in immunological reactions. Study of APC during a UV session showed an increase in the count of these cells 6-8 h after exposure.
