[Laboratory methods of prognostication in suppurative complications of erysipelas inflammation].

The dynamics of the leukocyte index of intoxication (LII) and the blood-cell index (BCI) was studied in 2756 patients with erysipelas. Both indexes, raised at the height of the disease, are lowering under the therapy influence. At the purulent-inflammatory complications beginning the LII and BCI level remains high or raises 2-3 days before occurrence of clinical signs of complication. The application of above-mentioned indexes for prognostication and diagnosis is possible.

Adolescent

[Immune disorders in patients with purulent necrotic complications of erysipelas].

There were examined 106 patients with purulent-necrotic complications (PNC) of erysipelas and 102 patients without PNC. Significant disorders of the immune status were revealed: the reduction of T-lymphocytes quantity, their subpopulational content dysbalance, the rise of level of a middle- and small-molecular immune complexes. In patients with PNC the immunocorrection conduction is expedient.

Abscess

[The effect of endovascular laser therapy and antioxidants on the immune status and energy metabolism of patients with treatment-resistant forms of schizophrenia].

The influence of endovascular laser therapy and of antioxidants on clinical immunological indices and energy metabolism was analysed in 148 schizophrenic patients including 86 patients with shift-like progredient (first group) and 62 patients with continuous-progredient (second group) forms of the disease. Positive trends in psychosis course were observed in 57% of cases in the first group and in 41.9% of patients of the second group. Pronounced improvement of the immunological indices was observed in patients with positive clinical dynamics: decreased peripheral blood immunocytes sensitization to the brain, hepatic, thymus tissue antigens as well as ATP elevation which was evidence of the improvement of energy metabolism.

Antioxidants

[Antioxidants in the treatment of schizophrenia (the correction of lipid peroxidation processes)].

It was established in the course of 185 schizophrenic patients' examination that intensification of lipid peroxidation (LP) took place in relapses of the disease. It was manifested either in increase of blood serum levels of both malonic dialdehyde and diene conjugates, or in decrease of erythrocytes' resistance to LP mediated hemolysis. Alterations in indices of either spontaneous or induced chemoluminescence were revealed too. LP indices were lower by the end of the treatment in hospital, but remained significantly higher than normal values. Application of antioxidants in combined treatment of schizophrenic patients promoted decrease of LP activity as well as improvement in mental state of patients. LP activity was high in the remission too. Determination of LP indices may have prognostic importance.

Adult

[Occupational causes of erysipeloid morbidity among the workers engaged in meat-processing industry in the Lugansk region].

Erysipeloid takes the second place after eczema among other occupational diseases at the meat-processing enterprises of Lugansk region. The maximal occurrence is seen at the meat enterprises in summer. The morbidity is promoted by slight traumatism in cold and humid work conditions. Skin and joints are most frequently affected by the disease. One of each four among the sufferers demonstrates the prolonged course with longstanding arthropathies.

Adolescent

[Immune status and micro-hemodynamic function of patients with chronic alcoholism and liver pathology].

126 patients with chronic alcoholism combined with hepatic pathology (of alcoholic genesis) were examined. Laboratory immunological observations with the using of monoclonal antibodies demonstrated the expressed alterations of immune homeostasis exactly the decrease of total T-lymphocytes population (CD11+) as well as the number of T-helpers/inductors (CD40, immunoregulatory index and the increase of the level of circulating immune complexes. The correlation between the immune alterations and the microhemodynamic disturbances was also observed. In connection with the results mentioned above the question arose about application worth of both immunological correctors and angioprotectors in therapy of alcoholism espessially combined with hepatic pathology.

Adult

[The pathogenetic role of circulating immune complexes in multiple sclerosis].

CIC in multiple sclerosis were assessed qualitatively and quantitatively. CIC changes in response to hormone therapy were also studied. It was found that in multiple sclerosis CIC contain antibodies to brain tissue, thymus, hepatic lipoprotein, adrenal cortex, leukocytes, gastric mucosa. A positive response of CIC levels to hormone treatment is stated.

Adolescent

[Use of an "immunologic compass" for diagnosis of immune disorders in clean-up crew members after the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant].

A total of 389 patients with cerebrovascular diseases who participated in liquidation of the Chernobyl power plant accident consequences were examined using rosette formation test and the cytotoxic method with monoclonal antibodies (MCAB). The predominant type of immunologic abnormalities found in 79.1% of patients was a marked reduction of CD4+ cell (T-helpers/inductors) count and a moderate reduction of CD8+ (T-suppressor/keller) count, this resulting in reduction of the CD4/CD8 coefficient. In 11.3% of the examinees CD(4+)-lymphocyte count was reduced and CD8+ count was within the normal range, in 6.2% both CD4+ and CD8+ counts were reduced, and in 3.4% CD4+ count was reduced and CD8+ moderately elevated. Results of theophylline test did not coincide with those of CD4+ and CD8+ measurements in 44.2% of cases.

Accidents

[Immunity indices in the diagnosis of persistent HBs-antigenemia in pregnant women].

The immunity parameters were studied in 42 pregnant women, HBsAg carriers, both clinically healthy and suffering from chronic liver diseases. Sixty pregnant women without liver diseases or HBs-antigenemia made up the reference group. A marked T-cellular immunodeficiency was revealed in pregnant women with persistent HBs-antigenemia and chronic persistent hepatitis, in contrast to the clinically healthy women whose cellular immunity parameters were the same as in healthy pregnant women. Besides cellular immunodeficiency, the pregnant women with HBs-positive chronic persistent hepatitis presented with a marked imbalance of the humoral immunity parameters and hypersensitization to liver lipoprotein, this indicating manifest shifts in the immunity system. Spontaneous abortions occurred much more often in women with chronic persistent or active hepatitides than in the controls. The authors claim that screening of pregnant women for HBsAg is advisable for deciding on the policy of pregnancy management.

Adult

[Secondary immunodeficiencies in the pathogenesis of protracted forms of intestinal infections and the prospects for their immunocorrection].

Acute intestinal infections (AII) are characterized by marked defects of immune homeostasis. These were not related to the disease etiology though depended on the infection severity and manifested with T-lymphopenia, reduced count of circulating T-helper cells in normal amount of T-suppressor cells. This resulted in low immunoregulatory index (CD-4/CD-8). Immunological criteria have been determined indicative of the tendency to formation of a protracted AII course and long-term persistence of the agent in the host.

Acute Disease

[The clinical assessment of macrophage functional activity in patients with protracted dysentery and its correction with lysozyme and vitamin E].

Prospects for the correction of disturbances in the macrophagal system with a combination of lysozyme and vitamin E in patients with a protracted course of dysentery caused by Shigella flexneri 1b were studied. The phagocytic activity of macrophages (PAM) was found to be suppressed as early as at the beginning of the disease. Out of 38 persons repeatedly found to release shigellae 24 were administered polychemotherapy. PAM indices in patients treated with lysozyme and tocopherol acetate were likely to normalize, this being indicative of the positive effect of these preparations on the functional activity of the macrophagal system.
