In the result of parasitological researches of reptiles of the Volga delta, 17 species of trematodes belonging to 10 families and 5 orders have been recovered. The dynamics of trematodes in reptiles is regulated by transformations of biocenoses of the delta depending on fluctuations of the Caspian sea level.

After short-term (7-day) space flights the following parameters were measured in blood of cosmonauts: cortisol, ACTH, aldosterone, thyrotropic hormone, thyroxine, triiodothyronine, somatotropic hormone, insulin, testosterone, cyclic nucleotides, prostaglandins, activities of the kallikrein-kinin, fibrinolytic and coagulatory systems, and plasma renin activity; in addition, renal excretion of aldosterone and total 17-oxycorticosteroids was determined. It was demonstrated that after the short-term flights the acute period of adaptation was accompanied by a moderate activation of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system, adrenal glucocorticoid function, pancreatic insular apparatus, kallikrein-kinin system as well as increased cyclic AMP which is suggestive of a moderately expressed stress-reaction.

Tibia and vertebrae of rats exposed to hypokinesia or head-down suspension were investigated by quantitative histomorphometry. It was found that 35- and 60-day hypokinesia as well as 35-day suspension caused osteoporosis in the tibial and vertebral spongiosa. The development of osteoporosis was accompanied by a significant reduction in the number of osteoblasts in the primary spongiosa of tibia and vertebrae whereas no noticeable changes in osteoclasts were observed either in hypokinetic or suspended rats. The only exception was lumbar vertebrae in which the amount of osteoclasts decreased as a result of 60-day hypokinesia. It is assumed that the reduction in the number and activity of osteoblasts plays the major part in the development of osteoporosis during hypokinesia and suspension.
