[Local treatment of peritonitis by aspiration drainage].

Aspiration pelvic drainage in combination with naso-intestinal drainage were used in 783 patients with various forms of peritonitis. 489 patients had local peritonitis. There was no mortality in this group of patients. 294 patients had general peritonitis, the mortality rate in this group 6,5% (19 patients). In 34 cases the re-do surgery has been performed (13 patients died). Aspiration drainage is recommended for the treatment of various forms of peritonitis.

[Reaction of the system of specific cortisol transport to a hemoblastosis process].

The nature of interaction of cortisol with corticosteroid-binding globulin was studied in the blood plasma of normal subjects and patients with leukemia and lymphoma. Sex-dependent differences in cortisol interaction with corticosteroid-binding globulin were found in hemoblastosis patients. Male patients showed a decrease in the binding capacity of corticosteroid-binding globulin and an increase in the affinity constant and index of free cortisol. In females no significant changes were observed.

[Sorption detoxication of the body in a system of complex therapy of cancer patients].

Hemosorption and enterosorption were employed in 83 and 15 patients, respectively, as a component of complex treatment for tumors of various sites (mainly, hemoblastosis). The procedures were intended to control tumor intoxication, cytostatics-induced myelodepression and complications of chemoradiation and operative treatment. Hemosorption showed the best results in combatting chemotherapy- and radiation-induced toxic complications and when used for preparation for surgery. An apparent clinical response and improvement in patients condition as evidenced by laboratory tests permitted to step up antitumor therapy without deviating from standard dosage schedules.

[Pathogenesis and treatment of tic-type hyperkinesis in children].

Results of clinical and electrophysiological examinations of 52 children with tic-type hyperkineses are presented. Nine of them had generalized tic (Gilles de la Tourette's disease), and 43 had local forms. All the children were examined electroencephalographically; 26 children had, in addition, an electronystagmographic examination. Changes pointing to organic affections of the brain were revealed. The authors recommend that anticonvulsants be used for tic therapy. In children with generalized tic the anticonvulsants may be combined with haloperidol.

[Use of preparation VM 26 (epipodophyllotoxin) for treating lymphomas in children and adults].

A coordinated clinical trial (phase II) of preparation VM-26 supplied by Sandos (Switzerland) was carried out at 5 clinics in a total of 61 patients with lymphoma. Two regimens of VM-26 administration were employed: (1) 5-day courses of 30 mg/m2 iv with 7-14 day intervals, or (2) two injections of 50 mg/m2 a week, within 4-6 weeks, depending on drug tolerance Out of 15 children with Hodgkin's disease, 50% of cases showed complete or partial remission. Out of 27 adults with Hodgkin's disease, response was registered in 69.9 and a pronounced effect--in 1 26.1%. Out of 14 patients with lymphosarcomas, response was observed in 78.5 and a pronounced effect--in 57.2%. Toxic effect was not the cause of treatment suspension in most cases.
