[Principles and results of 5 years' work on a register of hemoblastoses].

In the paper, the organization steps and working principles of the first in this country the Sochi hemoblastosis Registry at RIEPT of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences are reported. During a 5-year period the detailed comprehensive information was obtained on 1500 patients with blood system malignancies among 2 millions of the Krasnodar territory population. The results of statistical, multipurpose analytical epidemiological investigations as well as clinical and organization studies are summarized. It is concluded that hemoblastosis Registry is an optimim model for conducting thorough researches and improving all aspects of the specialized oncohematological service among the country population.

[Vestibulometry in young children with infantile cerebral palsy].

A total of 648 vestibulometric observations of young children suffering from infantile cerebral paralysis revealed diverse vestibular disorders in 85% of the cases. Electronystagmographic findings make it possible to evaluate the functional potentialities of the child's brain in the conditions of cerebral pathology. A certain connection between the vestibular and the motor disturbances is noted. A high sensitivity of the vestibular apparatus to intracranial hypertension in the stage of its clinical compensation is revealed. The vestibulometric findings are used for forecasting the disease outcome and diagnosing disturbances of not only the vestibular, but also of the visual analyzer. The results of the study make it possible to evaluate the sick child's state most completely as early, as in the initial stages of the disease, and to outline the therapeutic strategy.

[Pattern of steroid hormones in patients with acute leukemia].

The cortisol metabolism was studied in patients with different variants of acute leukemia. In total amount of C21-steroid excreted with urine the portion of cortisol was decreased, the increased cortisol conversion into 20-dihydrometabolites and the decreased cortisol portion, conversed through the stage of cortisone into tetrahydrocortisone, were observed. Also, disturbances in steroid conjugation with glucuronic and sulfuric acids and the increased progesterone concentration in peripheral blood plasma were noted.

The establishment of the suspension Epstein-Barr virus producing cell lines from patients with tumoral diseases.

Isolation of the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) in suspension lymphoblastoid cell lines from human patients with tumor diseases, mainly malignant lymphoma, has been described. It has been shown that the EBV was isolated from human patients with myeloid type of leukemia in 75% of cases. A similar virus was also isolated from patients with Hodgkin's disease and leukemoid reaction of the myeloid type for lung cancer. Morphological, cytochemical, immunological, and cytogenetic characteristics of the cell lines in which the EBV is replicated have been investigated.

[Isolation of the Epstein-Barr virus in suspension cell lines obtained from persons with different forms of hemoblastosis].

Isolation of EBV from patients with different types of haemoblastosis by establishing virus-producing cell lines is described. EBV was isolated from patients with myelogenous leukemia in 71%, Hodgkin's disease--in 22%. EBV was also isolated from 1 patient with lung tumor and leukemogenic reaction. All 8 established cell lines produced EBV in 0.5--3% of cells. The cells of the lines concerned are lymphoblasts and show B-cell characteristics.

[Combined chemotherapy of lymphogranulomatosis].

Fourty two patients with lymphogranulomatosis (LG), mainly in stage IIIB and IVB, received polychemotherapy- a combination of N-nitrosomethyl urea, vinblastine, natulan and prednisolone (scheme L-I). The treatment comprised repeated courses. The first course lasted for 3 weeks, the remaining-for 2 weeks. An objective effect estimated by figure "3" was noted in 33 (78.6%) patients, "2"--in 6 (14.3%), "1"--in 2 (4.7%) and "o"-in 1 patients (2.4%). In 25 out of 33 patients with the objective effect "3" the complete clinical remission was gained, being maintained in 21. An average duration of the remission was 14 months. In overwhelming majority of case the maximum effect of the treatment was observed after the first (1-3) course of polychemotherapy. No grave complications relative to the treatment were noted.
