[Transport ATP-ase activities in different brain structures during development of experimental neuroses in rats].

Typical alterations in activity of transport ATPases were observed in crude mitochondrial fractions isolated from various rat brain parts after chronic stressor effects. In the acute period of stress reaction activity of Na+, K+-ATPase was increased in synaptosomes of frontal cortex, hypothalamus and hippocamp. The enzymatic activity normalized after chronic action of the stressor agents. But under these conditions the activity of Mg2+-ATPase was distinctly decreased in cortex, hypothalamus and in pons Varolii.

[Adenohypophyseal hormone and corticosteroid content in the blood and urine in light mechanical injury].

A considerably increased content of adrenocorticotropic, somatotropic and thyreo-stimulating hormones of the hypophysis in the blood serum, as well as corticosteroids in the blood and especially in the day urine was noted in 27 male patients with the first 4--8 days after light mechanical traumas not resulting in pronounced disturbances of homeostasis and having favourable outcomes. It has been shown that a simultaneous assessment of cortisole and corticosterone in the day urine is most informative among the studied forms of adrenal hormones (17-OCS, cortisole, corticosterone) in the evaluation of the functional state of the adrenal cortex and corticosteroid balance in the organism of the patients.

[Effect of dibazol on the state of the hypophyseal-adrenal system in patients operated on under thiopental anesthesia].

In the observations over the patients subjected to operations on the limbs under thiopental narcosis and in the experiments on white rats exposed to a shockogenic trauma (by Kennon's method) it has been found that the prophylactic injection of 1--2 mg/kg dose of dibazol rises the non-specific resistance of the body. The hormones of the pituitary-adrenal system have been found to hold an important place in the mechanism of the effect of dibazol.

Adenine nucleotide and creatine phosphate pool in adult and old rat heart during immobilization stress.

BACKGROUND: Disturbances in the heart energy provision is important in the stress-induced injury of myocardium. In order to learn the causes of age-dependent differences in myocardial sensitivity to stress, we determined the level of adenylates, creatine and creatine phosphate in adult and old rat heart during an immobilization stress. METHODS: Fifty male Wistar rats were used to study the myocardial adenine nucleotides, creatine and creatine phosphate pool and creatine kinase activity during an immobilization period. RESULTS: The concentration of adenine nucleotides in old and adult rat hearts was similar. The total concentration of adenylate pool, ATP and ADP in the heart of both age groups was reduced during stress. However, in old rats under stress the concentration of ATP in a less measure and ADP in a greater measure is decreased against that observed in adult animals. The level of inorganic phosphate in old rat heart remains the same as in adult rats. CONCLUSION: The creatine kinase system may be important in stabilizing the ATP level in myocardium of adult rats during stress. The role of this system in heart energy metabolism during stress is decreased in old rats. Disturbances of isoenzyme creatine kinase activity are responsible for these disorders.

[Catalase activity in the myocardium during stress in adult and aged rats].

The study of catalase myocardium activity at stress in adult and old rats has been performed. It has been revealed that the formation of immobilization stress is accompanied by the enzyme activity stimulation. The expression of this effects is more significant in adult animals. Experimental data concerning the possible role of peroxidation lipids in myocardium catalase stress activation and its age modulation are given.

[Age changes in properties of myofibrillary creatine phosphokinase enzyme in the rat myocardium during stress].

The activity of the myofibrillar isoenzyme creatine phosphokinase (CPK) in the heart inhibits with age. This may be explained by impaired association of CPK with myofibrils. The immobilization stress led to a sharp fall in CPK activity in its decreased affinity to the substrate. Changes in the catalytic properties of myofibrillar CPK in the myocardium of adult stressed rats raise effectiveness of its function in altered cardiac metabolism in stress.

[Effect of novel derivatives of 1,2,4-triazolyl-5-mercaptoacetic acid on the reductase activity in the liver microsomes in adult and old rats with immobilization-induced stress].

The effect of 3-(4-pyridyl)-1,2,4-triazolyl-5-mercaptoacetic acid morpholinium salt (rumosol) and potassium salt (drug 2) on the liver microsomal reductase activity was studied in adult (aged 10-12 months) and old (22-25 months) Wistar rats under immobilization stress conditions. In the group of adult rats, both drugs showed comparable moderate inhibiting effect. In the group of old rats, rumosol injections produced the reductase activation up to a level characteristic of the intact old animals.

[Activities of the liver microsome reductases in adult and aged rats during stress].

The influence of 0.01% sodium dodecyl sulphate, 1.5 and 6.0 M urea and 0.03 M hydrogen peroxide to the NAD(P)H: 2,6 dichlorphenolindophenol reductase activity in livers of adult and old Wistar rats during immobilizing stress was interested. Obtained results indicate that the NADPH--dependent reductase is more resistant to modulating effect of sodium dodecyl sulphate, hydrogen peroxide and urea than NADH-dependent enzyme. The significant decrease of NADH: 2.6 dichlorphenolindophenol reductase sensitivity to the action of all studied modulators occurs in old rats. The similar changes appears in the adult rats liver during stress. The old rats immobilization is accompanied by a decrease of this enzyme activity and the reduction of the influence of all studied modulators to NADH: 2.6 dichlorphenolindophenol reductase as compared with adult ones. These changes in the activity and properties of microsomal NADH: 2,6 dichlorphenolindophenol reductase promote more pronounced decrease of the substrate hydroxylation in the liver of old rats during stress compared to adult ones.

[The antihypoxic action of malonic acid].

Malonic acid showed a protective action on rats in acute hypoxic hypoxia. The antihypoxic effect of this compound is unassociated with its action on succinate dehydrogenase and may be mediated through the changes in hormonal metabolic regulation.

[Metabolism of endogenous aldehydes: participation in oxidative stress-induced lesions and its age aspects].

This review summarizes the data regarding the synthesis and utilization of endogenous aldehydes and mechanisms of their cytotoxic effect. Peroxidation of polyunsaturated fatty acids is the main source of endogenous aldehydes. There are many different aldehydes generated in the cell. The most abundant is 4-hydroxy-2,3-nonenal synthesized from linoleic acid. Aldehydes may react with proteins and nucleic acids and change their functional properties. Aldehyde utilization mainly occurs in reactions catalysed by aldehyde dehydrogenase, aldehyde reductase and glutathione-S-transferase. The major pathway of their catabolism is accompanied with their conjugation with glutathione. Endogenous aldehyde utilization has its tissue- and age-dependent specificity. The status of aldehyde catabolism can modulate free radical alteration effect on the cell. An adequate stimulation of endogenous aldehyde utilization in the situation of enhancement of free radical generation may promote increasing the cell resistance to oxidative stress injury. Senescence is accompanied by a decrease in endogenous aldehyde utilization intensity in tissues. This could be important in the pathogenesis of age-dependent pathology.
