[Etiological diagnosis and classification of Herpes virus-associated disturbances of the central nervous system].

An etiological classification is submitted of Herpes virus-induced affections of the central nervous system (CNS), such as monoherpesviral, herpesvirus-bacterial, herpesvirus-spirochetal, herpesvirus-mycotic, herpesvirus-protozoan affections. Excerpts from case records of etiologically confirmed mixed infections are given. Consideration is given to such herpesviruses as HSV, CMV, EBV, VZV. Other possible combinations of etiological agents include herpesvirus + chlamidia, mycoplasms, prions.

[The therapeutic efficacy of reaferon in meningoencephalitis].

There have been under observation 63 patients with meningoencephalitis at the age of 15-52 years whose complex treatment included reaferon and 42 patients with the same disease who were not given the drug. Reaferon was noted to be effective in meningoencephalitis. It shortened the period of clinical manifestation of the disease, hastened sanation of the liquor, influenced beneficially interferon production and modulated activity of the natural killers.

[The status of the progeny of male rats subjected to low-dose external gamma irradiation exposure].

In studies on 120 mature males of Wistar rats and 252 female rats of the same line, 20-day-old fetuses and 974 young rats of the first generation, anomalies of antenatal and postnatal development were found after exposure of spermatids and spermatozoa to gamma-radiation in doses 0.25-1.0 Gy. After exposure of male rats to radiation in dose 0.25 Gy, reliable delay of pelvic bone ossification was observed as compared to the control.

[The clinical use of Amoxiclav in patients with suppurative meningoencephalitis].

Clinical use of Amoxiclav showed high therapeutic efficacy in patients with purulent meningoencephalitis both alone and in combination with cefalosporinum of the first generation. Against the background of treatment of patients with overt manifestations of meningoencephalitis and neurotoxicosis meningeal and encephalitic manifestations got attenuated during the first week, with liquorodynamics being stabilized, cerebrospinal fluid ameliorating by day 8-10 of the disease course. Bacteriologic assays showed that up to 83.4% of bacterial flora most common in Ukraine are sensitive to Amoxiclav, with such pathogenic organisms as Pneumococcus, Meningococcus, hemophilia bacillus that are actually main pathogens implicated in acute meningoencephalitis in Ukraine being sensitive to the above drug preparation in 100% of cases.
