[Possibilities for the identification of persons by means of the diagnosis of dental diseases and their therapy].

Person identification depends on an immediate and competent evaluation in order to provide the investigating agencies with relevant information on whether the cause of death was suicide, homicide, murder, or accidental. Based on documented cases of corpse identification, an attempt was made to provide evidence for the importance of a dental evaluation in addition to the general medicolegal evaluation.

[Profession and dental health].

The German Association for Dentistry project "Epidemiology" studied the dental findings of 2,336 patients over the age of 15 in 15 dental practices in Middle Hesse. Occupation-related evaluation of the DMF-T index and the oral hygiene findings showed that the caries rate was relatively unrelated to the patient's occupation. Differences in the state of oral hygiene however were observed.

[Attempt of a definite statement on dental care for the handicapped].

A survey made in cooperation with various institutions for the handicapped ascertained the dental coverage and care of the handicapped. Participating in the survey were 634 institutions for the handicapped. The study included 98,737 handicapped individuals treated on both an in-patient and an out-patient basis in these institutions. The results of the survey tend to indicate that dental care for the handicapped is in need of improvement.

[Findings in hereditary dentin dysplasia].

The special characteristics of inherited dentin dysplasia were presented in two cases within one family based on clinical, roentgenographic and histologic findings. The multiple periapical findings observed in both individuals (osteitis-like structures) and dysplasia of the cement were discussed.

[Modification of the filling margin by ultrasonics].

On 117 extracted teeth the border closure of polished fillings with various materials was examined after exposure to the action of ultrasound. The estimation of the depth of roughening in the area of the border of the filling was achieved with the help of the Förster profilograph. In addition we present the results obtained by the REM technique. It was shown that the least damage of the border closure was in teeth filled with composites.

[Epidemiological results of the study on tooth destruction carried out at the Marburg dental clinic].

The individual components of the DMF-T-index checked for age and sex were examined in 2655 patients, who first attended the ZMK clinic in Marburg in 1974, as regards their connection with social and geographical origins. Results of a comparative study, which is restricted to dental findings of patients between the ages of 15 and 64 from the town Marburg and the country area Marburg-Biedenkopf are presented. The wisdom teeth are not included.

[Maturation of residual tissue, left in the jaw after injury].

An eight-year old patient was observed for a period of eleven months: after the traumatic loss of a front tooth, the root of which had not fully grown, the maturing of the remnants of the follicle which were probably injured by the avulsion and not yet fully mineralized, was studied. In the histological examination of the enucleated dental hard material, regions of irregular dentin were found.
