[Intravascular bronchioloalveolar tumor or I.V.B.A.T. Apropos of a case and review of the literature].

Intravascular bronchioloalveolar tumor is a rare tumour of the lung. Having observed a case detected during systematic examination in a 44-year old woman, the authors compare the radiological, clinical, histological and evolutive signs of the disease with those reported in the 40 cases published since the first description by Dail and Liebow, in 1975.

Adenocarcinoma, Bronchiolo-Alveolar↗

[Malignant tumor of testicular gonadal stroma. Treatment by combined chemotherapy-radiotherapy].

The authors report the case of a 49-years-old man with an undifferentiated malignant gonadal stromal tumor of the right testis. Malignancy is confirmed by metastasis in the retroperitoneal lymph nodes. After 6 courses of chemotherapy with Cis-platinum, a retroperitoneal lymphadenectomy was performed and the section of the nodes showed a muscular differentiation of the tumor. This drug regimen did nod induce a complete response and an early recurrence occurs after lymphadenectomy which included the right ureter. The renal function was preserved by the way of a double J indwelling ureteral stent. A total remission was obtained with chemotherapy using Cis-platinum and 5-Fluorouracil, associated with a rapid fraction irradiation for six courses. Total response was assessed by scanner and by a laparotomy for bowel radiation sclerosis.

Combined Modality Therapy↗

Sjögren syndrome and lupus erythematosus nephritis.

A 9 year old girl with symptoms of the Sjögren syndrome showed interstitial lymphocytic infiltrate on renal biopsy. Two years later she had clinical and biological evidence of systemic lupus erythematosus, associated with a typical glomerulonephritis.

[In vitro cloning of human tumor stem cells].

This study summarizes a one-year work experience in the area of human tumor stem cells cloning techniques. We found that it was more advisable to use an enzymatic method for dissociating solid tumors. The breast tumors possessing an unfavourable histoprognostic grade were found to grow up more easily in culture, which is a confirmation of known relationships between cell differentiation degree and cell proliferation. The high frequency of failures in the obtention of colonies did not allow to use this technique in daily clinical practice to study the in vitro sensitivity to drugs of a definite tumor. An improvement in the conditions of culture and the comparison with other in vitro methods for the prediction of response to oncostatics--particularly the incorporation of radioactive precursors (Livingston and coll., 1980)--will be attempted in future work.

Thymoma with hypersecretion of thymic hormone.

A 78-yr-old patient presented with a malignant thymoma with a predominance of epithelial cells. Lymphocyte markers (E rosettes, T-cell-specific xenoantigen and surface Ig) and electrophoretic studies showed that more than 95% of the peripheral blood lymphocytes were T cells. High levels of circulating thymic factor were repeatedly found before treatment (irradiation and chemotherapy). It is suggested that inappropriate hypersecretion of thymic hormone is responsible or can contribute to the immunological abnormalities found in this patient.

[Malignant Brenner's tumor. Apropos of a case].

The authors by report a case of Brenner's tumour diagnosed during a hysterectomy carried out for a cervical carcinoma in situ in a menopausal patient with neoplastic adenopathy of unknown cause.

[Two cases of benign liver tumour in women on oral contraceptives (author's transl)].

Two benign liver tumours are described in women who had taken oral contraceptives. These were cases of focal nodular hyperplasia and a liver cell adenoma. These lesions are benign, and were discovered on routine examination as they were not responsible for any clinical sign, as is usual except in cases of peritoneal rupture, where the patient presents with a dramatic hemoperitoneum. Oral contraceptive were found to be associated as in many recent cases. Oestro-progestins were found to be responsible for an increase in hepatic metabolism, which gave rise to biochemical, histological and sometimes clinical changes in the form of jaundice or a tumour. There is no proof of this mechanism but the supervision of women on contraceptives should include a search for a hepatic tumour for which surgical treatment is necessary to prevent complications.
