Abstract

The nation's growing needs for primary-care physicians aren't being met by the current medical education system, experts are warning. And they say not enough is being done to correct the situation. Only about 14% of 1992 medical school graduates are planning careers in primary care, compared with 37% in 1981. But trade associations, research groups and primary-care providers are promoting new programs and new roles for medical education to reverse the trend.
