Moebius sequence and hypogonadotrophic hypogonadism.

Abstract

A distinct form of Moebius sequence is associated with hypogonadotrophic hypogonadism. There have been five such cases to date. We now add a further case with detailed neurologic, endocrine, and autopsy findings and offer a hypothesis drawing parallels with the already established basis of hypogonadotrophic hypogonadism in the X-linked form of Kallman syndrome.

Neurophysiological assessment of craniofacial pain.

This review deals with the diagnostic usefulness of neurophysiological testing in patients with craniofacial pain. Neurophysiological testing of trigeminal nerve function relies on trigeminal reflexes and laser-evoked potentials (LEPs). This review briefly describes the physiology of trigeminal reflexes and LEPs, reports normal values and highlights the neurophysiological abnormalities in the main clinical conditions.

Imaging of muscular denervation secondary to motor cranial nerve dysfunction.

The effects of motor cranial nerve dysfunction on the computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) appearances of head and neck muscles are reviewed. Patterns of denervation changes are described and illustrated for V, VII, X, XI and XII cranial nerves. Recognition of the range of imaging manifestations, including the temporal changes in muscular appearances and associated muscular grafting or compensatory hypertrophy, will avoid misinterpretation as local disease. It will also prompt the radiologist to search for underlying cranial nerve pathology, which may be clinically occult. The relevant cranial nerve motor division anatomy will be described to enable a focussed search for such a structural abnormality.
