[Biologic tissue response to sutures].
Abstract
The search for the ideal suture material has continued for decades. Implantation of foreign materials, including surgical sutures causes cellular response. Use of materials of natural origin is connected with a more pronounced reaction than that caused by synthetic sutures. The above review summarizes properties of suture materials that may be useful for choosing indication of the appropriate material in varying surgical situations.
