Multidetector-row helical CT enteroclysis.

Abstract

The authors illustrate the technique for small-bowel imaging using enteroclysis with multidetector-row computed tomography (MDCT), underscoring the important role played by CT in the assessment of the small bowel thanks to the advent of first the spiral and later the multidetector technique. The paper makes a detailed comparison of the various methods that have been used in CT study of the small bowel and proposes a standardised technique to achieve correct distension of bowel loops and adequate evaluation of bowel wall vascularity, making reference to the well-consolidated experiences of the various Italian research groups. The paper accurately describes the different procedures required for CT assessment of the small bowel, from nasojejunal intubation to the selection of the most appropriate acquisition phases for assessment of bowel wall vascularity.

A new RP-HPLC method for analysis of mebeverine hydrochloride in raw materials and tablets.

A simple, sensitive, selective, reliable, least time consuming and rapid high-performance liquid chromatographic method for the determination and quantification of mebeverine hydrochloride using hyoscine butylbromide as internal standard has been developed. The chromatographic system consisted of a Shimadzu LC-10 AT VP pump, SPD-10 AV VP UV visible detector, and a CBM-102 Bus Module integrator. Separation was achieved on the micro Bondapak 125 a C18 10microm column at room temperature. The samples were introduced through an injector valve with a 10 microl sample loop. Acetonitrile-water (1:1 v/v) was used as mobile phase, with flow rate 1.7 ml/minutes. pH was adjusted to 2.9 with phosphoric acid. U.V detection was performed at 205 nm. The results obtained showed a good agreement with the declared content. Recovery values of mebeverine hydrochloride were from 99.80% to 100.13%. The proposed method is rapid, accurate, and selective and may be used for the quantitative analysis of mebeverine hydrochloride. The method was found to be specific, accurate, precise and reliable for the determination and quantification of mebeverine hydrochloride in form of raw materials, in bulk drugs and formulation. It was possible to determine all of them in the concentration range of 5-30 nano grams. The detection limit of mebeverine hydrochloride was 0.4-nano gram.

Stability and compatibility of binary mixtures of morphine hydrochloride with hyoscine-n-butyl bromide.

The aim of this study was to determine the compatibility and stability of morphine hydrochloride and hyoscine-N-butyl bromide combined in solution at three different concentrations and stored in polypropylene syringes at 4 degrees C and 25 degrees C over a period of 15 days. The doses assayed were 20, 60 and 120 mg/day for morphine hydrochloride and 40, 60 and 80 mg/day for hyoscine-N-butyl bromide. These dose ranges were chosen according to daily practice. At both temperatures, all mixtures can be considered as physically compatible since no evidence of incompatibility-that is precipitation, turbidity, colour change or opacity and gas production-were observed. After 15 days of storage, the percentages of hyoscine-N-butyl bromide remaining in the drug mixtures tested ranged between 96.07% and 92.23%. At the end of the study, the percentages of morphine hydrochloride remaining in the drug mixtures were 100% at both temperatures.
