An important diffraction effect in infrared photography.
Abstract
During a study of bruising, a strange effect was observed on the black-and-white infrared record. This took the form of a circular area of density, in the centre of the contusion, which lasted throughout the life of the bruise. Investigations revealed that the newer 105 mm f/2.8 Micro-Nikkor lenses were the cause, exhibiting unacceptable diffraction at apertures smaller than f/11.
