Ectopic prostatic tissue in urethra.

Abstract

Ectopic prostatic tissue in the urethra is an uncommon lesion. It appears more often in young males. The common presenting symptoms are hematuria or hemospermia. It is a benign lesion, and transurethral fulguration is believed to be adequate treatment.

[Heterotopic thyroid tissue localized to the pelvis].

A case of well encapsulated thyroid tissue localized to the pelvis and without relation to the ovaries is presented. This anomaly is interpreted as a monodermal extragonadal teratoma. In cases of unusual localization of thyroid tissue, the following should be considered in the differential diagnosis: ectopia, metastasis from an occult carcinoma of the thyroid gland and teratoma. When thyroid tissue of teratoid origin is found, surgical removal is advised on account of the malignant potentialities of these tumors.

[Pyonephrosis on account of an ectopic ureterocele].

A case of isolated pyonephrosis on account of an ectopic ureterocele in a thirteen-month-old boy without bacteriuria is presented. The importance of early diagnosis and treatment is emphasized.

Aberrant thymus--MR assessment.

Aberrant thymic tissue, particularly when it is located posteriorly, can present a diagnostic dilemma. Once a mediastinal "lesion" is defined on the plain film, MR is the most efficient and best diagnostic test for defining the nature of the mass and showing its relationship to other mediastinal structures. Two cases of aberrant thymic tissue, one on the right side and one on the left, are presented to elucidate the unique role of MRI.
