Establishing a self-administered medication program.

Abstract

This article discusses the process used to institute a self-administered medication program in an in-hospital setting on a Rheumatic Disease Unit. The program and the steps taken in establishing this program are described. This article will help nurse administrators implement similar programs in their own patient care settings.

VRUSE--a computerised diagnostic tool: for usability evaluation of virtual/synthetic environment systems.

A special questionnaire (VRUSE) has been designed to measure the usability of a VR system according to the attitude and perception of its users. Important aspects of VR systems were carefully derived to produce key usability factors for the questionnaire. Unlike questionnaires designed for generic interfaces VRUSE is specifically designed to cater for evaluating virtual environments, being a diagnostic tool providing a wealth of information about a user's viewpoint of the interface. VRUSE can be used to great effect with other evaluation techniques to pinpoint problematical areas of a VR interface. Other applications include bench-marking of competitor VR systems.

Managing the quality effort in a health care setting: an application.

Recent marketplace realities and trends have forced health care institutions to adopt strategic orientations that stress a customer focus. Central to such strategic orientations is the effective utilization of service quality practices and philosophies. Toward that end, this research offers health care institutions an affordable methodology. A real-life application of the rapid assessment methodology (RAM) in a health care operational setting is presented. Finally, a framework to guide the implementation of the RAM methodology is outlined and explored.
