Research program development in a tertiary care setting.

Abstract

The Committee on Clinical Nursing Research was established in April 1979 at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, not only to encourage clinical nursing research for the provision of optimal care and the development and evaluation of nursing practice, but also to monitor consumer safety vis-à-vis the research effort. The development of the committee and relevant issues are discussed.

Nurses' perceptions of roles in multidisciplinary teams.

The move towards multidisciplinary approaches to health care has been encouraged by a number of government reports (DoH 1986, 1989) in order to support the increase in community care and improve the quality of the service. Such approaches to care are dependent on a high level of co-operation between members of different professions within the multidisciplinary team. Inherent in the concept of such a team is the assumption that each team member has a clear understanding of the role of all other members. This project set out to test this assumption by examining the knowledge and perception of nurses and podiatrists with regard to each other's role.

Group discussions in nursing education: a learning process.

This article offers advice on how to obtain the most from group work by taking personal responsibility for learning. The authors consider the components of successful group work and how both students and teachers can take full advantage of this popular educational strategy.
