[Closed hemorrhoidectomy].

Abstract

In the closed hemorrhoidectomy wounds are completely sutured. Ferguson and Whitehead operations, the latter modified in order to avoid mucosal ectropion and stenosis, are the most performed closed hemorrhoidectomies. 15% Ferguson operations, 10% Whitehead-Rand operations, and 75% Milligan and Morgan operation were performed among 400 hemorrhoidectomies. Author discusses indications for closed hemorrhoidectomy; techniques are described, complications and results reported.

Hemorrhoidectomy with self-retaining retraction.

Hemorrhoidectomy is one of the most effective treatments for significantly symptomatic hemorrhoids. By placing the patient in the Sims' position and appropriately using the Hill-Ferguson retractor and towel clip, the surgeon can get good exposure and perform a Ferguson closed hemorrhoidectomy without any assistance.

[Hemorrhoidectomy: current status].

The many treatments for haemorrhoids highlight a lack of consensus. Differences in patients' and surgeons' priority make objective evaluation of haemorrhoid treatment difficult; different types of haemorrhoids are being treated in patients from different socio-economic backgrounds by surgeons of varying expertise from within different cultural settings. In this article we have reviewed the results of common treatments for haemorrhoids and give an outline of our operative technique when performing haemorrhoidectomy.
