[Hemorrhoidectomy: current status].

Abstract

The many treatments for haemorrhoids highlight a lack of consensus. Differences in patients' and surgeons' priority make objective evaluation of haemorrhoid treatment difficult; different types of haemorrhoids are being treated in patients from different socio-economic backgrounds by surgeons of varying expertise from within different cultural settings. In this article we have reviewed the results of common treatments for haemorrhoids and give an outline of our operative technique when performing haemorrhoidectomy.

[Hemorrhoidal disease].

Prevalence of hemorrhoidal diseases in proctologic practice has decreased over the past years. Inflammatory and functional diseases predominant as a consequence of improved differential diagnosis and diagnostic management. In less than 20% of patients of a specialized practice stage-adapted therapy is indicated. Favorable long term results, however, are barely obtainable without elimination of pathogenic factors. If inflammatory and/or functional disorders of the anal region are not eliminated relapses are preprogrammed.

New rubber-band loader to facilitate use of hemorrhoid ligator.

The placement of rubber bands on a ligator is often difficult and frustrating, especially when the operator is wearing gloves. A newly designed rubber-band loader with grooves and a pusher places the bands on the ligator easily, simultaneously, and quickly even under these conditions.
