Peripheral uveitis in children.
Abstract
The treatment of peripheral uveitis in the young patient requires close supervision. Early diagnosis of the inflammation will permit the ophthalmologist versed in the use of local, periocular, and systemic corticosteroid therapy to control the inflammation in these young patients and to preserve their vision. Treatment should be instituted when vision decreases to less than 20/40, and when optic nerve or retinal changes appear to be progressing. The use of general anesthesia in patients less than 14 years of age is necessary when they are treated with periocular injections.
