[Bangerter pterygium operation--a simple and safe method].
Abstract
BACKGROUND: A Bangerter has introduced a surgery method by radial incision at 6 o'clock and turning the conjunctiva by 90 degrees C. The success of this method was evaluated in a retrospective study. MATERIALS AND METHOD: Out of 38 consecutively operated primary ptygiums, using the Bangerter method, 28 cases could be followed up (average follow-up period = 7,8 years). One eye showed a relapse, 27 were relapse-free. CONCLUSIONS: The Bangerter method ist recommended to perform surgery in primary pterygiums, especially for the GP, since this method shows a slight relapse-rate only and does not involve the use of a free implant, cytostatics or radiation treatment.
