[Euthanasia--attempt at an ethical approach].
Abstract
A categorical refusal of active euthanasia, as presently being reflected by the Austrian euthanasia debate, has, by a closer examination, proved ethically unfounded. As to all moral judgement in matters of practised euthanasia, the most important question here certainly is whether the aid for dying has been granted on request or not, or even without the ill person's consent--rather than whether that person granting euthanasia is doing this is an active, passive or possibly indirect way. However, the possibility of a moral justification for the so-called killing on request will not consequently permit the legalization of its practice due to practical reasons speaking against such a step.
