[Effect of jiaweiyiguanjian decoction on hypothalamus-pituitary-thyroid gland (HPT) in rat model with Yin-deficiency of liver and kidney induced by slow irritation].

OBJECTIVE: To explore the mechanism of Jiaweiyiguanjian decoction in nourishing the liver and kidney. METHOD: A rat model with Yin-deficiency of liver and kidney was made by way of slow irritation. Thyrotropin-releasing-hormone(TRH) of thyron and blood, TSH of pituitary and blood, thyroxine, 3,5,3',5-tetraiodothyronine(FT4) and 3,3',5-traiodothyronine(FT4), 3,3',5-traiodothyronine(rT3) were used as indexes to study the effect of the decoction on HPT. RESULT: The TRH Secretion from hypothalamus increased (P < 0.05), TSH of pituitary and blood reduced(P < 0.05), FT3 and FT4 of blood decreased at the same time and rT3 of blood, increased. The indexes of the treatment group were found almost the same as the those of the normal control group. CONCLUSION: Jiaweiyiguanjian Decoction could adjust HPT.

[Comparative analysis on results of treadmill test in patients of coronary heart disease caused angina pectoris with Qi-Yin deficiency syndrome with or without accompanied phlegm and blood stasis syndrome].

OBJECTIVE: To explore the objective special features and role of various indexes of treadmill exercise test (TET) in patients of coronary heart disease (CHD) caused angina pectoris with Qi-Yin deficiency syndrome (QYD) with or without accompanied phlegm and blood stasis syndrome (PBS), to provide references for preventing and treating CHD in clinical practice. METHODS: One hundred and one patients, whose diagnosis measured to the diagnostic standard and the inclusion criteria of angina pectoris and CHD, were classified according to their TCM syndrome type to two groups, the QYD without PBS group (49 cases) and the QYD with PBS group (52 cases). TET was conducted on all the patients. The relative parameters were measured and compared. RESULTS: As compared with the QYD without PBS group, in the QYD with PBS group, (1) the TET positive rate was higher; (2) total exercise time was lesser; (3) the maximal metabolic equivalent (Max MET) was lower; (4) the average depression of ST segment at the exercise endpoint of test (mV) was higher; (5) the time of ST segment depressed for 0.1mV (min) was longer; (6) the metabolic equivalent during ST-segment depressed by 0.1mV was shorter; and (7) the change of QRS wave time-limit before and immediately after TET was more evident. Moreover, in the testing time more patients revealed angina episode after exercise, and less patients had their heart rate reached the requirement in the QYD with PBS group than those in the QYD without PBS group. Comparison between the two groups in all the above-mentioned indices showed significant difference respectively (P < 0.01 or P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Patients with CHD caused angina pectoris of QYD with PBS are worse in the tolerance for exercise and severer in pathological change of coronary artery than those in those without PBS, they belong to the severe phase of TCM syndrome.

Clinical study of qingluo tongbi granules in treating 63 patients with rheumatoid arthritis of the type of yin-deficiency and heat in collaterals.

The study is to observe the therapeutic effects of qingluo tongbi granules (QTG) in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and the changes of immune indexes. In this series there are 63 patients with RA of the type of yin-deficiency and heat in collaterals treated with QTG as the treated group and 55 patients of the same type treated with Tripterygium glycosides as the control group. As a result, in the treated group, the curative rate is 9.52% and markedly effective rate 38.10%, with a total effective rate of 90.48%, while the corresponding rates in the control group are 0, 20.00% and 83.64%, respectively. The curative effect in the treated group is better than that in the control group (P<0.05). Besides, no obvious adverse reactions are found in the treated group. Therefore it is concluded that as a new medicinal preparation QTG is safe and effective in the treatment of RA.

[Research on stomach yin deficiency syndrome due to abdominal surgery or severe acute abdominal diseases (I)].

The Spleen-Stomach theory is an important component of the theories of TCM. Exploration of pathophysiologic changes in patients with Stomach Yin Deficiency Syndrome (SYDS) is of help in explaining the Spleen-Stomach theory. Hence patients with SYDS due to abdominal operation or severe acute abdominal diseases were selected as objects to be observed. The endotoxin in plasma, immune function of the body, the mean temperature and blood perfusion rate at the centre of the tongue, area representing the Spleen and Stomach, the surface pH and index of electric conduction of the tongue and rheologic changes were determined. The results showed that the content of plasma endotoxin in patients with SYDS was 346 +/- 216 ng/ml (mean +/- SD). The value in all patients with SYDS was beyond normal (50 ng/ml), the highest being 1050 ng/ml. ANAE and LTT were decreased, as compared to the control (P less than 0.001). The content of IgG, IgA, CIC in blood increased (P less than 0.05, P less than 0.001, and P less than 0.001 respectively), and that of IgM decreased (P less than 0.002). The consistency of C3 in patients with SYDS was 83.6% of the control (P less than 0.001), and that of C4 and C5 increased (P less than 0.01 and P less than 0.001 respectively). The mean temperature of the tongue with SYDS was 0.64 degrees C lower than the control (P less than 0.05) and the blood perfusion rate was decreased 16.4% than the control (P less than 0.05).(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)

[Effect of "Yiqi yangyin huoxue" prescription on hemorrheology of diabetics with symptoms of "qi, yin" deficiency and stasis of blood].

Hemorrheologic tests were studied in 68 cases of diabetes with symptoms of deficiency of both Qi and Yin and blood stasis. The results showed that whole blood viscosity, plasma viscosity, hematocrit and RBC filterability in diabetics were significantly higher than in normal controls, except for hematocrit in male patients. After treatment with "Yiqi Yangyin Huoxue" prescription by Prof. Zhu Shenyu, whole blood viscosity (at shear rates of 3.83 s-1, 38.3 s-1, 192 s-1), plasma viscosity, hematocrit and RBC filterability were apparently improved, with a decrease of fasting blood sugar, as compared with patients of the placebo group.

[Clinical study on hyperthyroidism of yang hyperactivity type due to yin deficiency treated by jiakang ning capsule].

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of Jiakang Ning (JKN) capsule on hyperthyroidism. METHODS: Eighty-five cases of hyperthyroidism were divided into JKN group (24 cases), JKN with low dose Tapazol group (35 cases) and Tapazol control group (26 cases) at random. The effects were evaluated by total effective rate, using principal symptoms, body weight, EKG, thyroid hormone and atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) after 6 months. RESULTS: The total effective rates of three groups were 83.8%, 97.1%, 88.5% respectively, and there were insignificant difference among them statistically (P > 0.05). The first two groups had better effect in principal symptoms than Tapazol control group (P < 0.05). There were similar results in adjusting thyroid dysfunction and abnormal EKG, decreasing ANP and increasing body weight among those three groups (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: The effect on hyperthyroidism treatment by JKN capsule was satisfactory. The combination of Chinese herbs with western medicine could enhance the curative effect of hyperthyroidism without obvious side-effects.

[Exocrine function of the pancreas and pathological histology of the stomach in patients with stomach yin deficiency syndrome (SYDS) research on SYDS following abdominal operation or with severe acute abdominal diseases (Part 3)].

Exocrine function of pancreas (BT-PABA test) in 13 patients with SYDS was examined and gastric membrane in 5 cases with SYDS other than gastric diseases was observed under light- and electro-microscopy. The results were as follows: urine rate of recovery of PABA in SYDS was 35. 42 +/- 14.33% and that in the control with same age was 64.70 +/- 10.55%. The rate in SYDS was decreased obviously (P less than 0.001). Under light microscopy gastric mucosa of patients with SYDS showed slight gland degenerative atrophy, smaller cytoplasm, eosinophilic decrease of parietal cells and infiltration of inflammatory cells in interstitial tissue. Under electro-microscopy, the main changes of the gastric mucosa with SYDS were severe mitochondria damage, inflating rough endoplasmic pools and large vacuole at which membrane major particles of ribosomes disappeared, degenerated secretory vessels and formation of myelin figure in parietal cells, decrease of secretory particles in main cells, degeneration in some degree and decrease of nervous secretory particles in G cells and damaged interstitial capillaries. The results in this study suggested that the exocrine function of pancreas in patients with SYDS after abdominal operation or with severe acute abdominal diseases was decreased and there were some damages in energy supply and protein manufacturing systems of the gastric mucosa and functional disturbances of main cells, parietal cells and G cells in patients with SYDS.

[Endocrine function in stomach yin deficiency syndrome (SYDS): research on patients with SYDS following abdominal surgery or severe acute abdominal diseases (II)].

Patients with SYDS following abdominal operation or with severe acute abdominal diseases were observed on changes of the thyroid, adrenal function and digestive hormones. The results showed that the serum concentration of T3 in patients with SYDS decreased by about 50% with the control (P less than 0.001). The concentration of T4 decreased too (P less than 0.001). The rT3 content increased and there were no obvious changes in the content of TSH and T3RUR. The manifestations conformed to "low T3 syndrome" in nonthyroid diseases. The amount of urine 17-KS and 17-OHCS per 24 hours decreased (P less than 0.001 and P less than 0.05 respectively). The serum gastrin level decreased by 60.4% with the control (P less than 0.002) and that of VIP increased (P less than 0.05). The results suggested that the patients had decreased thyroid and adrenal function and the secretion of hormones of digestive tract decreased.
