Haemangiopericytoma.

Three cases of orbital haemangiopericytoma are presented. In one the tumour recurred after 22 years and in another after 4 months. Metastasis to the breast, which occurred in the third case, is probably the first to be reported. The management of the cases is discussed. The clinical importance of the haemangiopericytoma lies in its potentially malignant behaviour.

Corneomalacia perforans in a patient with rheumatoid arthritis.

Bilateral corneomalacia perforans occurred in a young woman who had had rheumatoid arthritis for 7 years. The perforations appeared to be precipitated by systemic corticosteroid therapy. The only symptom was a sudden loss of vision. Conservative treatment - withdrawal of the steroid therapy and application of soft contact lenses for 3 weeks - resulted in complete healing of the perforations and a marked increase in visual acuity.

Role of cerebellum on ventilatory change due to muscle-receptor stimulation in the dog.

The role of the cerebellum in reflex increase of ventilation due to muscle-receptor stimulation was studied in dogs anesthetized with pentobarbital sodium. Stimulilike pressure application or stretch of gastrocnemius muscle produced increase in ventilation. Ablation or cooling of the anterior lobe of cerebellum significantly reduced this ventilatory response to application of the same degree of pressure or stretch of the gastrocnemius muscle. Ablation or cooling of the posterior lobe of the cerebellum did not have any effect on ventilation due to muscle-receptor stimulation. It was concluded that the anterior lobe of the cerebellum is in some way concerned with the ventilatory change produced by muscle-receptor activation.

Sister chromatid exchanges in congenital cataracts.

A total of 25 patients with bilateral congenital cataracts, from three aetiological groups i.e. rubella (6 patients) hereditary (6 patients) and undetected aetiology (13 patients) were studied for sister chromatid exchanges (SCE). SCEs were markedly raised in the rubella groups as compared with age sex matched controls. The other two groups also showed raised SCE, more so in hereditary group.

Dermatoglyphic profile in congenital cataracts.

Forty-five children with congenital cataract cases were studied for patterns and compared with age sex matched controls. The patients showed marked differences in different dermatoglyphic traits. The intra uterine aetiological groups i.e. rubella, hereditary and undetected aetiology, showed variations in mainline terminations. Rubella group showed increased angle atd.
