[Functional status of the endocrine system in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy].

The study was undertaken to examine 27 patients aged 20 to 50 years who had hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HC). Group 1 consisted of 12 patients with asymmetric cardiomyopathy. Group 2 comprised 15 with symmetric cardiomyopathy. Blood samples were taken from the cubital vein before and 30 and 60 minutes after administration of 0.2 mg thyroid-releasing hormone (TRH). Blood hormone concentrations were measured by radioimmunoassay. TRH test was found to provide an essential information on the function of the hypothalamo-hypophyseal-thyroid and hypothalamohypophyseal-adrenal systems in HC patients. The HC patients showed lower function of the hypothalamo-hypophyseal-adrenal system. There was a decrease in serum testosterone during all the periods of examination. At the same time the patients from Groups 1 and 2 had substantial features of the function of various links of the immune system, which may suggest a variance in the pathogenesis of the two types of the disease.

[Hemodynamics of the greater and lesser circulation in patients with hypertension].

Based on a study of the hemodynamics of the greater and pulmonary circulation by direct methods in 117 patients with essential hypertension it has been demonstrated that changes in the stroke volume are implicated in the mechanism of the interregulation of the greater and pulmonary circulation. Elevation of the pressure in the pulmonary artery is mostly observed in patients with the hypokinetic version of the hemodynamics.

[Clinico-immunological characteristics of acute pneumonia in young patients].

Altogether 103 patients with acute pneumonia and 50 healthy controls were examined. A wide range of clinical and immunological methods was applied. The data obtained were processed using statistical multivariate analyses. Differences of a clinical picture and the immune status were shown in primary patients and in patients with repeated pneumonia. An attempt was made to explain the pathogenesis of repeated pneumonia. The use of immunomodulating agents for therapy and prevention of acute pneumonia was substantiated.

[Characteristics of the clinical picture of ischemic heart disease complicated by sick sinus syndrome and problems of the prognosis of syncopal states].

Combined investigation of 86 coronary patients, including 18 patients with the sick-sinus syndrome, demonstrated the clinical pattern of the disease. The contribution of atrial systole to cardiac output was assessed in patients with sick-sinus syndrome. A basic rule is proposed for the prediction of syncopal states associated with the sick-sinus syndrome in coronary patients, its accuracy reaching 94.6%.
